On February 19 2021, the City of Toronto served a Notice of Application for a court injunction against local carpenter Khaleel Seivwright, to halt the construction, placement, and relocation of tiny shelters. Over the past few months, Toronto Tiny Shelters have provided warmth, privacy and security for many people who have been living in encampments across the city. The work of Khaleel and countless advocates and volunteers is critical because it is rooted in finding pragmati...c and humane solutions for people’s survival in the absence of permanent housing or viable and accessible indoor shelter space. We encourage you to take part in the collective action of writing to our city councillors to condemn this egregious exercise of power and demand to: -Drop the notice against Khaleel; and don’t pursue future action to others who are providing aide -Expropriate hotels and buildings in the downtown core to create rent-geared-to-income housing -Ban encampment evictions - we still want an eviction moratorium on encampment evictions -Defund the police and Parks Ambassadors - the money spent on enforcement could be better spent on long-term housing for people For more information and to support @torontotinyshelters, visit the link in bio. #HousingNotLawsuits #EvictTory #TOpoli #JohnTory

R/P @koffler.digital . Insightful words from artist, curator, and all around wonderful @lizikiriko (who also is in @critical.distance's Programming Advisory) on creative process and intuition. Check out @koffler.digital's Call for Submissions for their upcoming online exhibition - details below! ... Artist and curator Liz Ikiriko (@lizikiriko) made headlines last week as she becomes the first Black artist whose work has been acquired by Dunlop Art Gallery (@dunlopartgallery) for permanent collection. In 2018, Ikiriko spoke about her creative practice in our publication Work in Process. Discussing the ways in which she embeds herself into her work, Ikiriko detailed the role of interior worlds as a processing tool in her practice. She states: My process begins very unguarded. Intuitively, I start gathering experiences, ideas, fragments of stories as well as tactile materials that are often very personal. This stage is not for the public. I draw from within, and avoid creating barriers or prescribed ways of presenting this work, I set aside worries of it feeling too raw or exposed. I spend time with these elements and then I begin to build, connect and tie the components together. Looking for inspiration for your proposal? Check out Work in Process and other past Koffler.Digital exhibitions and publications at the link in our bio Submissions for our call for proposals are due February 21, 11:59pm

Read more below @projectrevision Sept 30th, 2-3:30pm! "The Murmuration of Birds: An Anishinaabe Ontology of Mnidoo-Worlding," a talk by Dr. Dolleen Tisawii’ashii Manninga Queen's National Scholar in Anishinaabe Language, Knowledge and Culture (ALKC) @queensuniversity with Sebastian De Line as discussant. ...Hosted by @emergentfutures. What does a bird actually see when it is part of a large flock? In a murmuration, a flock of starlings interweave intricate, cascading flight patterns around land, wind, and other flock formations, without ever colliding. In our upcoming talk, Dr. Manning will elaborate on Ojibwe Anishinaabe ontology through what she terms mnidoo-worlding, which takes as its starting point the presumption of a life-world populated by human and other-than-human persons, "entities/bodies'' or, rather, potencies. During these times of radical uncertainty, continuing threats of colonialism, racism, capitalism and climate genocide, Dr. Dolleen Manning discusses what can we learn from wading into subtle mnidoo regions to collaboratively imagine new futures and formations.
