Meet Thomas, one of our Youth Employment Program participants, based in #Merritt Read more about why he joined the program and what he's been up to - he's bee...n busy! #BCCOS #YEP Thomas Manuel-Hanuse The opportunity to work with and alongside the Conservation Officer Service has been something that I have wanted to do for a long time and when I got the chance to, I jumped at it. The main project that I worked on over the winter was conducting surveys on the Douglas Lake Burbot Fishery in partnership with the Upper Nicola Band When anglers were successful, information such as the number of fish, where on the lake they were caught, date, time, length and gender (and noting any scientific tags) was recorded for population monitoring. I have also gained a wealth of experience conducting day-to-day operations with CO’s. I was able to attend a road check in Boston Bar, help with Steelhead checks on the Thompson River, as well as gain experience in ice fishing compliance checks and assisting with human-wildlife conflicts. I have learned a lot and enjoy working in the YEP program and will continue to take as much information from this program as I can!
