As of July 1, 2020 Lifesaving Society has lowered their age requirement for their National Lifeguard Course to 15! I will be teaching this course in August.

This is a tough video to watch, but also an important one. Many adults sat beside/looked at/and watched this 5 yr old boy drowning for serval minutes.

National Lifeguard Course/Recert-Lifesaving Society Aug 7,8,9 21, 22 Must be 15 years old and have current Standard First Aid and current Bronze Cross. ... Bronze Star, Medallion, Cross course will only be run if enough interest. Standard First Aid classes can also be arranged.

Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury deaths worldwide. That’s 7% of all injury related deaths. -WHO Canadian Red Cross reports 400 Canadians drown each year, and its one of the top causes of death for children under 4. Lifesaving Society reports that 15 out of every 100 drownings in Canada occur in backyard pools. 70% of those had no fencing around the pool, and 60% of child drownings occur from June-August. ... Canadian parents say proper supervision is key to help prevent accidental drownings, yet only 50% say they always supervise during water play. Only 3% of children who drowned from 2001-2010 were identified as strong swimmers. 6 out of 10 children who drowned were weak or non-swimmers. These are some scary facts. Here are some tips to help you keep your child/ren safe around water this summer.

When should you start your child in lessons? We don’t recommend starting any younger than 4 months, as the water is hard on their skin. The younger you start, the easier they’ll learn. Session 2 of indoor lesson registration will start Friday September 20 at 9am!
