Thanks to Wanuskewin Heritage Park for hosting our annual Crosby Hanna & Associates Summer Fun Day! We had an exciting a sneak peak of the big changes going on at the park, and are happy for their re-opening on September 5th. Crosby Hanna & Associates feels very honoured to have been a part of this significant renewal project.

This week's #CSLAFellowFriday is Robert W. Crosby. Rob was the first private sector landscape architect resident in Saskatoon. He resisted requests to teach dr...afting to the local parks department, instead focussing efforts on building the business and the profession, locally and provincially. https://www.csla-aapc.ca/aw/college-fellows/robert-w-crosby ____ Cette semaine #AssociésAAPC est Robert W. Crosby. Robert fut le premier architecte paysagiste du secteur privé résidant à Saskatoon. The Prairie Crocuses (Anemone patens) are in full bloom! With the spring winds blowing, it is no wonder that the genus name Anemone originated from the Greek ...word for wind. It was once believed that the Crocus would only bloom if it had a fresh supply of spring winds. Scientific evidence has not confirmed this theory; however, we can be certain the fuzzy purple blooms are a welcome sign that summer is on its way. These photos and many more were taken during a recent project site visit. Site visits are a very valuable step in the design process because they help to more closely connect the site with the designs that we produce. In preliminary design stages, site visits inform design considerations by highlighting the character of the site and identifying other features that define the site. Today’s science experiment in the lab testing foam footing products as a replacement for concrete in hard to reach and sensitive areas. FUN FACT: Foam Footings are often used to install heavy telephone posts in remote locations, where heavy equipment access is not permitted or possible.

TOP 40 FAVOURITE PROJECTS # 28 Innovation Place Innovation Bowl is the forecourt to The Galleria (15 Innovation Boulevard), which is the central feature building at Innovation Place research park. Key features include comfortable gathering areas for tenants, and the public, central fountain / pool, sculpture and intense, varied plantings. Special attention was paid to year-round visual interest. Boreal Plaza, located on the east entrance to the Atrium building (111 Research D...rive) is designed to evoke the boreal forests of northern Saskatchewan. The dense site vegetation, both native to northern Saskatchewan and introduced, is designed to strengthen the boreal image. The berm in the centre of the plaza, planted with large pines and firs, is a miniature of a rugged island in the middle of a cold northern lake, and this focal point draws the eye from all points of entry into the plaza. Boffins Garden is an outdoor amenity connected to Boffins Public House, located in The Atrium building at Innovation Place. The Boffins Garden is intended as a meeting place for Innovation Place tenants and clientele and is designed and furnished in the Craftsman architectural style. The space successfully provides a year-round focus as the pond transforms into a rink and the pergolas provide shelters. The Rural Municipality of Vanscoy No. 345 is located south-west of Saskatoon approximately a 30-minute drive from Saskatoon’s Central Business District and occupies nearly 90,000 hectares. Within the RM of Vanscoy there are several communities including the Towns of Vanscoy, Delisle and Asquith; the Hamlets of Dunfermline, Grandora and Pippin; and the Pike Lake Provincial Park. In addition to vast amounts of quality agricultural land the RM is home to two large potash mines owned by Nutrien. The potash mines, industrial development, agricultural land uses and acreage residential development were primary considerations for the RM’s Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw. #communityplanning #Saskatchewan

Today, CHA ventured out to pay a visit and take part in an insightful tour of Shercom Industries Inc. It is nice to see a local Saskatchewan supplier who has mastered the practice of recycling and innovative repurposing and has been doing so for over 25 years. The company produces products made primarily from tires that they break down to make several eco-friendly surfaces and many other durable landscape products (including playground and athletic surfacing). Thank you Shercom! https://www.shercomindustries.com/ @Shercomindustriesinc

TOP 40 FAVOURITE PROJECTS #25 The award-winning Wascana Lake Urban Revitalization project, including The Big Dig, didn’t just deepen the lake and stabilize the shores. Working closely with the engineering team to design new shorelines and viewpoints, Spruce and Willow islands were expanded, and Pine and Discovery islands were created. The next phase included the design of new guardrails, bridges, and viewpoints, the connection of circulation routes through the addition of Albert Street Promenade and the Broad Street underpass, and the creation of the judges stand, just in time for the 2005 Summer Games.
