CrossFit Ashlar 07.01.2021

Leader of the Month! Brent has been a member since 2013, over the years he has shown us that everything is possible with hard work and patience. His positive attitude and smiles (even behind the mask) are what you would expect from Brent. Every workout is full effort and when the WOD is done you can still find him asking the coach additional questions or planning the next way he would attack that same WOD . His dedication and patience for a new skill is outstanding and this... has been shown recently as he attends all our gymnastic classes and now accomplished his first strict muscle up!!! You can find Brent after class in the corner doing extra gymnastic drills and spending time on the fundamentals. Brent is also seen at our community events and takes part in our fundraisers. Brent is one of the founders of the Average Joes group. The Average Joes are a fun noon group that WODs together and support each other! More about Brent: What is your favourite thing about CrossFit Ashlar? My favourite thing about CrossFit Ashlar is the community. I get to workout and visit with great folks every time I'm at the gym. No matter how crappy a day I'm having I can come to the workout at Ashlar, and forget the rest of my life for 60 minutes. I will even come to the gym if it means I have to do 7 minutes of burpees. That says something! What is your favourite post workout meal? My favourite post workout meal is shrimp and chicken with vietnamese rolls on vermicelli from Thiens. I like to order from the restaurant before my workout, so I can pick it up on the way back to the office. Which accomplishment are you the most proud of? I like CrossFit because there are so many challenging things to learn. I am most proud of learning how to do a muscle up. It didn't come easy for me and required a lot of consistent practice, as well as help and encouragement from coaches! What is your next goal? 2021 will be the year that I learn double unders. I have conveniently ignored the fact that I can't do them. What is your favourite movement? My favourite movement is handstand walks. Something about walking on my hands just feels awesome! #crossfitashlar #fitfam

New section in our new website . Every month all the coaches will be looking for the leader of the month. (all criteria for this is listed in the website) First leader from our kids program is Kolton! Way to go bud! He definitely hit all our criteria and we are super proud of you! We would like to celebrate our fi...rst Leader of the Month: Kolton! Kolton has been coming to CrossFit since February 2019. He started in Bears and graduated to Grizzlies this Fall! Kolton is extremely receptive to all coaching cues and has worked so hard at the basics. He consistently worked with a PVC pipe and 15lb bar to practice each movement. And he has never complained ONCE. Kolton has a positive attitude, If I suggest he jumps to a higher box he does it with a smile on his face. Kolton is humble and honest. He doesn't worry about being the first one to finish the WOD, or about adding more weight.. he does what is best for him and makes smart choices. Kolton also makes sure to say thank you to the coach after EVERY single class. We appreciate you Kolton and are proud of how far you've come! A few fun facts about Kolton 1. What is your favourite thing at CrossFit Ashlar? The coaches are really nice and make me feel welcome. And how it makes me feel after I leave the gym. Happy, calm and strong 2. What is your favourite post workout meal? Kodiak pancakes 3. Which accomplishments are you most proud of? During quarantine I attended the kids zoom classes 5 days a week and never missed a class. And got stronger so I could attend the grizzlies class when the gym opened up again. 4. What is your next goal? A pull up 5.Favourite movement? Box jumps and deadlifts
