Developing the young athlete. - We don't start with weights in the gym. We focus on what they can do with their own body before we start adding external load. - Our first focus is to build their coordination and body awareness. They are still growing and getting used to their bodies. Once we have them moving well, we add in speed and complexity!... - Run, jump, change direction. Very simple, very important. - All of our kids sessions will involve some type of sprint. It’s great to let them loose and see how they change from session to session. Let’s be real. Who doesn’t want to be a little faster!? - Side note. LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL FIELD!!!! @cornwallwildcats @ Joe St Denis

Would you rather DB floor press or snack? Answer is pretty obvious for Maggie....

For the longest time training athletes ages 6-16 was confusing.. Parents and athletes were left guessing. - Some parents held their kids from strength and conditioning. - Some will pressure their kids into training similar to professional athletes. ... - Others kept it old school and told their kids to take a jog around the block to get ready for the upcoming season. - It was only recently that training these young kids was figured out. - The 3 main points to training kids of this age is: Get the athlete used to performing movements that are foundational to sport. (jumping, landing, sprinting) - Train for General Physical Preparedness. - Train Speed. ... It’s really that simple - Little Jeremy won’t reach his potential if you are loading heavy weight on his back. - He won’t get any better by going out for an aimless jog. - And he’s not going to make it to the show if he’s on the ice 7 days a week (burnt out by age 17) - When training young athletes, the best thing you can do is keep it simple and fun. Mastering the Home workout. - The last few months have been pretty tough for gym goers. Things have gone one of two ways. They have either worked out more than ever OR they have let it slide. - As we continue through our situation we need to take a second to remember our Why. Why did you start working out? Why did you wake up one day and decide you are going to change your life for the better. WHY is exercise and nutrition going to be a part of your life?... - Was it to look good? Feel good? Be a little better at physical activities(sports, yard work, playing with your kids)? Did you want to look better naked? Lose a couple pounds, feel better in a bathing suit? Stay away from chronic disease and make life a little easier? Run a 5k without stopping? There were so many different goals when you chose to start this journey you’re on. - Mindset has been a big one for a lot of people. You need to be in the right mind to see success. - Stop saying I can’t and start saying I will - Focus on the positives, they outweigh the negatives - Tell yourself that you are the type of person that prioritizes their health. - Take action. Get your shoes on and start moving. It doesn't have to be heavy, it doesn’t have to be long. It has to be something. Anything is better than nothing. Small Victories will go a long way! See more

3 Reasons why you shouldn’t write your own workouts. - I personally don’t write workouts for myself. We write the workouts for our members, I do those and see great success. Lately I have been following a mix of our programming and @thundrbro Muscle Anarchy to switch things up and get a different view on things. -Several things can happen when you choose to write all of your own workouts. - ... 1- You might write too big of a workout and get part way through it then tell yourself Maybe I made this too hard, I should cut it short or change it up. No one’s going to knowOR worse you always push through and end up with some overuse injury. Not only are you missing out on someone else keeping an eye on you but you will probably dismiss it until it’s too late. - 2- Your workouts will most likely be everything you enjoy doing and are already good at. Leaving out all of your weaknesses. - 3- You might start off strong. Eventually you will probably just stop working out. No one is there to keep you accountable. Again, no one will know you’ve stopped. - Find a coach to help you out. They’ll give you some guidance and accountability. It goes a LONG way. If not a coach, there’s thousands of online programs out there. A lot of them are really good, we see them. We analyze them. Then we pick and choose from a wide variety of programs to deliver to our members with what we think is best for their health and fitness. See more

Change is hard. - We were all faced with a challenge in March. It changed our routines. For some the routine stayed the same for others it changed every 2-3 weeks. Now that things are opening back up, our routine changes AGAIN. Will you have an easy time getting back to your normal. Will you go back to the same daily schedule or will you take advantage of this reset? Will your health become a bigger priority? - If you are looking to get ahead and change your life, reach out to us. We want to help you get on the right path. Don’t know where to start? Don’t know what to eat? We can help, it’s what we do. Book an intro through our website or send us a DM. Link in bio!

The 400m Overhead Walking Lunge. - Throughout the year (mostly hot summer days) we do some pretty rough workouts. This is one of them. It’s SIMPLE, grab a plate, hold it overhead and lunge 400m. That’s all the way around a track or 4 lengths of a football field. It's about 400 lunges for most of us. It’s a slow grind BUT oh my, it works. This works the glutes, hamstring and legs so GOOOOD. Your shoulders also work very hard keeping that plate overhead. - There is no special... technique or strategy to this. It’s all about hard work and staying consistent with your sets. A LOT like fitness in general. You just need to keep moving forward, one step at a time. #Alwaysgettingbetter See more

Here’s what we know about motivation: Success has to happen before you’ll become motivated. - Success has to keep happening. - ... We don’t always recognize success when it happens. We’re pretty hard on ourselves. - The best way to get through this is with a coach. A coach will help guide you and keep you accountable. They will also recognize your successes and victories before you do. As humans we are very hard on ourselves. Sometimes we miss positives in our life because we’re reaching too far ahead. When someone dedicates themselves to you and your goals it gives you the extra feeling of support. That coach has your back. They want what’s best for you. See more

"I know I should lift weights, but I don’t want to bulk up." - Has this thought ever crossed your mind? Now I know everyone reading that does lift weights just rolled their eyes. Not because it’s a stupid thought but because they know that bulking up doesn’t just happen. Adding a lot of muscle is a serious process. It’s not just lifting some weights a few times a week then POOF muscles on muscles. - It requires dedication, the right program, quality food in quantities tha...t are right for YOU. Everyone you see who is bulky, buff or has visible muscles has worked very hard for them and that was part of the goal. Maybe not from the start but at some point they saw themselves and thought damn I love that my hard work is visible. - Now not all of us want our muscles to be bulky and screaming look at me but we want to feel the benefits of all of that. Lifting weights will get you to your goals faster than not. Mixing weights, cardio, bodyweight movement, intervals, quality food, sleep and a healthy mindset will not only get you to those goals but have you surpassing them to things you didn’t know your body could do or feel as good as it does! #Crossfit #homeworkout #CrossFitCornwall See more
