Dear parents and guardians, Based on the Northwestern Health Unit’s assessment of the COVID-19 situation in Fort Frances, it has been determined that schools i...n the Fort Frances and surrounding areas can return to in-person learning as of Monday (Jan. 25). That means the Rainy River District School Board will reopen the following schools on Monday, January 25, 2021. Donald Young School Crossroads School J.W. Walker School Robert Moore School Fort Frances High School (Grades 7-12) Mine Centre School Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program and the United Native Friendship Centre Alternative Secondary School Program will also reopen. Please note that new health and safety measures have been put in place for in-person learning, which include mandatory masking for students in Grades 1-3. This masking requirement will be additional to the existing requirement for students in Grades 4-12. Students in Kindergarten will continue to be encouraged but will not be required to wear masks. Parents/guardians are asked to please ensure that students have an additional cloth mask with them daily, as masks become wet and less efficient when worn in colder weather. Our schools have extra masks on hand for when students lose or forget their masks. We look forward to welcoming students back to in-person learning and want to reassure you that we will continue to follow public health guidelines, as the safety of our staff and students is our top priority. This includes enhanced cleaning of our buildings, frequent handwashing, maintaining physical distancing, and mandatory masks for students in Grades 1-12 and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for staff. We also appreciate your support in following all public health recommendations, such as avoiding non-essential travel, and continuing to use Ontario’s COVID-19 Online Screening Tool prior to sending your child to school every day. Students returning to in person learning are also reminded to bring their devices and chargers with them to class on Monday. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together in the best interests of our students. Sincerely, Heather Campbell Director of Education https://www.rrdsb.com//Letter%20to%20parents%20-%20January

Crossroads School RRDSB 10.12.2020

Dear parents and guardians, Recently, there was an incident regarding a security breach that directly affected a handful of Grade 7/8 students at Fort Frances H...igh School. Upon investigation, it was determined that an individual from the school shared passwords with an individual known to them from outside our District. This individual then used the information provided to log in to several accounts and virtual classes. This resulted in a full day loss of learning for the Grade 7/8 students as the breach was investigated and passwords reset. Students are reminded that they are expected to protect personal network logins and passwords. This means students must not share their password with anyone. They should also refrain from writing down their password in a place visible to others. For their school email addresses, the Board provides each student with a unique password at the start of the school year. Students are then able to change the password to one of their choice, if they wish, or use the password provided. Password protection is one of the most common security protocols available. By using a unique password, students are both proving their identity and keeping their personal information safer. If a student believes someone has discovered their password, they should report it to their teacher immediately. Students are also required to follow the RRDSB’s Digital Citizenship Policy, School Student Handbook, RRDSB School Code of Conduct and School Computer Code of Conduct policies. This includes student use of Board-assigned email accounts for school purposes only. By following this rule, students minimize the potential of security breaches for themselves and for the system. While our educators remind students about password protection and security protocols on an ongoing basis, we ask that you please also reiterate this information at home. A tip sheet is attached as further information to support you and your family in being cyber-safe. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter. Sincerely, Heather Campbell Director of Education https://www.rrdsb.com//letter%20password%20protection%20Ja https://ecno.org//2020/10/Password-Tips-to-Remember-FINALv
