Fire Prevention Week Oct. 4-10. The year's campaign is "Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!" Did you know? Cooking is the #1 cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires in the kitchen.... Some tips to stay safe while cooking: Thanksgiving is the leading day for fires involving cooking equipment. Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, boiling, grilling, or broiling food. If you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly and stay in the home. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner. Leave the pan covered until it’s cool. Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stovetop. Loose clothing can hang down onto stove burners and catch fire. Wear short, close-fitting, or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking. Have a kid-free zone of at least 3 feet (1 metre) around the stove and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried.

Week 1 for a new online 50/50 to help Fire Departments across PEI raise money to go towards equipment that is used to keep our communities safe. This draw has proved to be quite successful in other provinces and we hope PEI residents will jump in on the action here as well. First draw date is August 20th at 7:00pm. Thank you to everyone who buys tickets and of course an extra thank you to those who choose to support Cross Roads Fire Dept. Good luck! https://rafflebox.ca/raffle/peifirefighters/15
Cross Roads Fire Department would like to remind everyone that the fire weather index is at Extreme and Very High across the Island. https://www.facebook.com/FishWildlifePEI/posts/3292873574066668 With an exceptional low level of rain in recent weeks, the conditions are prime for fire related incidents. All burning permits are suspended, and people should avoid backyard fires at all costs until the index is lowered.... Even a small spark or stray cigarette butt can have a disastrous effect in these extraordinarily dry conditions. Your cooperation is sincerely appreciated to keep our community safe.
COMING SOON!!!!! The PEI Firefighters are excited to announce the launch of our weekly online 50/50 JACKPOT on behalf of all participating provincial fire depar...tments. Each year, firefighters in PEI fund-raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for various causes. For some, they may be upgrading their level of service with a new piece of equipment or apparatus. For others, it may be a means to support other charities or community organizations in need, or to preserve the history of their local accomplishments. As a common goal, all organizations do this to make their communities a better and safer place to live! ONE WINNER will receive 50% of funds raised each week! When purchasing tickets, please select the Fire Service Personnel/Organization you are supporting, as the money they raise will directly help their group. The money raised will help support our Firefighters across the province!
The current fire weather index for our region is Extreme.
