The faces have varied but the dedication, kindness and compassion have always remained the same. I am talking about the Clergy. I know they are referred to by different titles such as, Pastor, Reverend, Father, Celebrant, Speaker, Brother, Rabi and many others but in my mind I just think of ...Continue reading

Over the years people have often commented that it must be hard to work with your husband all day, every day and then go home together. Well we seem to make it work fairly well. We don't always agree but we both compromise (Harry maybe more than me) and in the end work it out. I must admit though that wasn't always the case. Over the years I have noticed that Harry does have a few faults! And this comes as a big surprise to me but he says I have faults too! ... When we were younger the compromising didn't come so easily. It sometimes was a battle of wills. I remember on one occasion when I needed to work more at the funeral home to help out. We used vinyl portfolio bags to put the guest book and cards for funerals in. We put the person's name on it with Dymo tape. Harry put the name in the bottom right hand corner so the next time I did the same. Harry came and pulled the name tape off and put it in the middle. I thought "OK he changed his mind. Fair enough". I made sure to place the name in the middle the next time. Harry came in pulled it off and put it in the in bottom right hand corner. I did not come back to help again for a very loooong time! But over the years we both have mellowed and have come to appreciate each other's strengths and are there to help the other where we are weakest. For example TIME. I am horrible with time. I start talking to someone and get sidetracked. My mother called it the "Gift of the Gab". Harry does not. He talks to people but is extremely conscious of the passing of time. It is one of the main reasons the funerals we conduct start on time. He appreciates the fact that I enjoy visiting with people and am genuinely interested in them but makes sure I don't take too long and slow things down. We have learned to compromise and work together, to present a united front to make sure to give our very best to the families we serve. So yes, we are together a lot. But I think we have found a way to make it work with mutual respect for our strengths and tolerance for our faults.

WE would like to congratulate Karen Selte on her position with Mount Royal University as the instructor for Work Experience 1 for students taking the Funeral Director program. She will be helping students ensuring that they are having a positive experience and offering guidance and support to each of them. Her classes are online with both group and one on one instruction. Karen may have been surprised when she was approached to be the new instructor but we can totally und...erstand why it was offered to her. She is always upbeat and supportive of everyone around her. Karen is dedicated to her chosen profession and her attention to detail is amazing. She goes above and beyond to give each of the families we meet with the best service possible and we know that she will give the same dedication and effort to her position as an instructor. Karen has become a valued member of our WORK FAMILY and we all enjoy working with her but she has also become just FAMILY to us and we couldn’t be happier or more proud that she is being recognized for her abilities beyond our family business or our community. Way to go Karen!!! See more
