My mother was diagnosed with ALS by Dr. Genge (Director of the CRU). I accompanied her to all her appointments at The Neuro, so I know how much hope patients have that their treatment will make them better. Working at the CRU, I feel that I am part of the chain of people helping to move research forward for neurological diseases. I’d like to think that in my lifetime, we will see progress so that those affected can go on to live a full life, like we have thanks to treatments... for HIV. It would be amazing to know that I contributed to that, explains Randy Jacinto, medical research program coordinator at the CRU. Randy is in charge of processing blood samples and preparing them to be sent to the organization managing the trial. Randy has a BSc in microbiology and a graduate certificate in microbiology and molecular biotechnology. Before coming to the CRU he worked in pre-clinical trials running toxicology tests. At the moment, there is no approved medication to slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease (PD). The CRU is participating in the REASON clinical trial that is studying an investigational drug that may be able to slow or stop the progression of PD. If you are between 35 and 80 years old, and have been diagnosed with PD within the last 7 years, you may be eligible to take part. To make an informed choice about participating in this or other Parkinson’s trials at the CRU, ...visit cru.mcgill.ca/parkinson.
