Bees have a symbiotic relationship with flowers like no other. Their timeless mutual beneficial bond spans as far back as the mind can imagine, with many positives for both plant and bug species as well as the entire world around them. We are all aware of the role played by the bee for the flower, but here is a little known fact about bees.. They can see UV light, but not red light; therefore they are more attracted to flowers that are in the ultraviolet color range rathe...r than red-hued. Another interesting fact, and a prime example of the UV colour attraction, is that there is a species of bee in the Himalayan Mountains that produce "psychedelic honey". The Himalyan Cliff Bee scavenges pollen from Rhododendron flowers, coloured bright pink in that area, which are widely known to be poisonous to humans. The honey made from the same flower has some pretty potent effects on the average human. ‘Mad honey’, as it is referred to, is known to be a powerful hallucinogen and recreational drug. In small amounts, the honey is intoxicating, giving a feeling of relaxation and a pleasant dizziness and tingling sensation. With slightly larger amounts, it can be hallucinogenic. Bees continue to amaze us with their astounding capabilities.
