Thought I’d share some fun encounters with wildlife here on the farm recently! I ran into this little guy who was wandering around one of our big ponds. He’s so cute! Our local moose and I startled each other early one morning. He was busy grazing and I was lost in my thoughts walking down the trail. Wish I would’ve had my camera ready to go!... Two days ago Jonathan got hit in the head by our resident hawk, who spends a lot of time up here by the house. He perches in the large poplars where he spies out his next feed. Jonathan was out in the field next to the house working and found two mice that were stuck in a bucket. He turned to dump them out, not realizing the hawk had moved at the same time diving for the two mice. The hawk rammed Jonathan right in the back of the head as he turned. He said it actually hurt. The hawk was ok. Last night I went for a walk the long way around to the ponds. My walk was interrupted by our farm skunk who loves to eat any fish feed that falls along the edge of the water when Jonathan’s feeding. The skunk kept walking along the trail and he would not turn left or right as hard as I tried. Not wanting to annoy him, I turned around. Wish I would have had my camera! That would’ve been a fun video! The mosquitoes have been so bad lately that you don’t want to doddle when your down around the ponds or in the trees right now, so I didn’t think to bring my camera. Next time! Jonathan said he actually gets quite close to the skunk and the skunk doesn’t get bothered. Guess he doesn’t want to spray the hand that feeds him! Pretty cushy life for a skunk here on the farm. See more

I enjoyed a beautiful drive delivering some very fresh rainbow trout to Chef Eric @chef_ericthered @kananaskislodge today. If the weather is keeping you from being outside, you might as well be enjoying yourself inside. Nothing beats the rain like a delicious meal done up Pomeroy style!
