In Confederation Centre, City of Burnaby has added some ‘try it’ classes for seniors - You can come to try different programs before committing to a multi-week program. You will be able to try the activity and also see/experience the safety precautions put in at the centre.

SOME IDEAS ABOUT HOW TO STAY CONNECTED & HAVE FUN During pandemic, many seniors are home-bound most of the time. However, although we can't see relatives & friends in person, we can "see" them & do things "together" online via Zoom or similar platforms. Here are some examples: 1. Coffee talk/ lunch/ dinner - You just need to put your laptop/ tablet/ phone on your dining table & then have a Zoom meeting.... 2. Exercise "together" - You can share exercise videos for everyone to follow. During breaks, everyone can chat. 3. Play musical instrument/ sing - Some equipment may be needed if you want better result. 4. Share photos/ slideshows/ videos - You can share travel photos, family photos etc. & talk about them. Photographers can even discuss about photography skills. 5. Classes/ demonstrations - If one of the friends is good in craft/ cooking/ other stuff, that person can teach the others. 6. Online reunions for family members/ classmates in different countries

Updates from Peter Kauhausen, CSA President: Hope you had an opportunity to partake of our short year-end Zoom presentation last Friday.. if not, that's okay too. Just a short recap: After opening remarks, Christmas Trivia was on the agenda and a couple of questions had the members stumped, but Alfred Woo and Wofgang were the ones with the most correct answers. A video of our Confederation Choir was presented followed by a short update and staff intros by Ashley. The staff, i...n full Christmas spirit, did a reading rendition of the Night before Christmas also on video which was then followed by our pretty popular Karaoke group. It was really great to see how passionate and enthused the participants were even when in isolation at home---each participant from the Karaoke group had their own video and very well done. We then had a sing-along where every one of course sang at home to themselves with the music that was played from the Center. I think it would have sounded awful if we all tried to sing along on a Zoom call. The final was a staff video of Elf Yourself which was pretty creative and well done. All in all, we had a good time and we are all looking forward to the time we can get back into Confederation Seniors Center. See more

Updates from Peter Kauhausen, CSA President: It looks like every step forward, we take two steps back. The vast increase in the latest number upswing in COVID-19 cases has affected what is transpiring at Confed. The fitness programs have been canceled for the next 2 weeks or longer depending on the outcome of the numbers. The Social Programs including Bingo, Crafts, and Coffee Talk are still continuing. A riddle: "What common English word is 9 letters long, and each time you ...remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word...from 9 letters all the way down to a single remaining letter." Answer will be disclosed next week. Also, remember to check out our website: www.confederation55pluscsa.ca If you want to contact CSA, please e-mail [email protected]
