Feb 18 was the Winnipeg Construction Association's virtual annual general meeting, where we reported on our activities for 2020. It was an unprecedented year, and although we needed to adjust a number of activities and services, our commitment to exceptional customer service, quality, and value for our clients has remained the foundation of our continued success. When your work requires repetitive movements like shovelling awkward postures can add up to injury. Yesterday was Repetitive Strain Injury Awareness Day a great reminder to ensure you're moving correctly for your task. #RSIAwarenessDay

Temperatures are getting colder it's important to dress warmly on the jobsite, however, you should only wear an approved hard hat liner under your hard hat, not a toque. Masks are important in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and they're mandatory in indoor public spaces in Manitoba. CSAM has you covered: we have non-medical fabric face masks available for $5 each, through contactless pick-up. To order, call us at 204-775-3171.
First aid recording is critical even if you're only taking a Band-Aid from the first aid kit. Recording minor injuries (what happened, when, and to whom) is key in verifying a workplace injury occurred, should it become more severe. Here's a template you can use: https://www.constructionsafety.ca//First-Aid-and-Treatment

It's #FeatureFriday! Have you seen the new Duties of Committee & Rep section on the CSAM App? It's one of 13 new topics we've added from the WSH Act and Regulation. It includes helpful resources like the Safety H.I.T. List, committee minute form, and Roles & Responsibilities toolbox talk.
Using awkward postures to complete work isn’t just uncomfortable, it's risky. Static, awkward, or extreme postures lead to musculoskeletal injuries. Proper work methods can reduce risk. We've created a list of MSI hazards to identify, communicate, and control: https://www.constructionsafety.ca/identifying-and-controll/ #ErgonomicsMonth
It's Feature Friday! Congratulations to Bedford Industries Ltd. on achieving COR Certification!

October is Ergonomics Month! Back injuries account for the highest number of musculoskeletal injuries in construction in Manitoba. Simple ergonomics can reduce your risk of sprains and strains when lifting: Get as close to the load as possible Use your legs Pivot on your feet, don't twist your back... Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) are injuries of the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, joints, cartilage, or spinal discs. Overexertion and awkward postures are two main factors that lead to MSIs.
