We are so proud of the art and the story of the 2021 Calgary Stampede poster! In her journey through the Calgary Stampede Poster Competition, 22-year-old artist Lexi Hilderman reached out to Katari Righthand, featured in the painting. Lexi had many conversations with Katari and her grandparents about Blackfoot culture and protocols. Katari's colourful fancy dance regalia brings bright colours to the image. Her Blackfoot name, Nààpiwa otó piim Akikowan (Rainbow Girl), represen...ts the hope that comes after a storm. Before the poster was released publicly, Lexi presented Katari with four gifts, respecting Blackfoot protocols. Additionally, there was a blessing to help us present this poster in a good way and start looking to the year ahead. We can't wait to welcome Lexi and Katari to Elbow River Camp at #Stampede2021.

This was an unexpected Stampede. We hope that although we couldn't gather together, share laughs, and learn from one another in person that you have enjoyed the dances, Tipi Holder greetings, and even colouring sheets of Elbow River Camp presented by Enbridge throughout Stampede 2020. Today, we continue the tradition of a closing ceremony. From the Elbow River Camp community to everyone: we hope you stay safe, stay healthy, and stay happy until we can meet again.
