Are you looking for a CPST to help you check your seat install but worried about close contact with someone outside your cohort/bubble? Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada has updated our map to now allow CPSTs to indicate if they are doing virtual seat checks. Which means you can have your seat checked, and still stay safe during these times. All you have to do is look for a blue pin to find someone who can help you virtually - which also means you are not limited to finding someone in your area. This means big things for those who do not have a CPST in your area!

Did you know that we have CPSTs all across the country? That you can book appointments to have a personal, one on one, car seat check or installation. No need to travel around from place to place to see if the firehall or police does them (quick tip - most do NOT have certified CPSTs on staff). During COVID doing an in person checks can be an option that not everyone is comfortable with, but thankfully there is the option for a virtual seat check. This allows everyone to h...ave their car seat checked based on their comfort level. It ALSO now allows is to do seat checks even in the coldest weather. So if you are looking for in-person or virtual seat checks, please check out this website to find someone closest to you. If you can not find anyone in your area that is doing seat checks (virtual or in person) let us know and we can help connect you will someone that can offer a virtual seat check with you. http://www.cpsac.org/find-a-tech #CPSWeekCanada #TogetherApart #TheRightSeat #ProudToBeACPST

While most of the province is still quite warm, cold weather is around the corner. The biggest question we get every year is HOW to keep our little ones warm AND safe. Many parents feel that they need to bundle their little ones up to brave the cold, however thats not a good idea in the car seat. As a general rule, bulky clothing, including winter coats and snowsuits, should not be worn underneath the harness of a car seat. In a car crash, fluffy padding immediately flat...Continue reading

The these unprecedented times, one has to wonder on HOW to SAFELY clean a car seat, especially if there are concerns about them coming in contact with possible COVID-19. To maintain their integrity and performance, most car seats and vehicle seat belts cannot be disinfected with harsh chemicals, said Kelly Mariotti, executive director of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). Manufacturers have determined specific cleaning solutions and application metho...ds that do not impede performance, and these cleaning instructions should be followed. Certain cleaning methods or chemicals may change the flame retardancy or performance of a car seat, so following the guidance provided by the specific manufacturer is crucial. Spot cleaning with a mild soapy solution is generally acceptable, but instructions for certain car seat models may also allow for machine washing of fabric pads, as well as other methods to sanitize components. Car seats are safety devices designed and intended to protect children from one of their biggest threats motor vehicle crash injury, explained Mariotti. To accomplish that, they must be stringently tested, and we caution parents against anything that potentially impedes their performance. In general, cleaning methods are contained in the instruction book that comes with the specific car seat. If that book has been misplaced, the manufacturer’s name and contact information can be found on a required label on the car seat itself. Manufacturer websites may also provide cleaning information. In cases that alternative sanitation methods have been tested and identified for use with certain car seat models or components, only the original manufacturer can accurately provide the appropriate guidance.
