Heritage Day is all about stories! One of CSV’s recent #heritage projects has been the exterior revitalization of the Dickinson House Museum. Stripping lead containing paint on the heritage wood siding, storm windows and doors down to the original fabric and repairing the eastern white pine is a crucial step towards the museum’s rejuvenation. Originally built in 1867 by Moss Kent Dickinson, the notable landmark was designed using a New England architectural style in the land facing his grist-mill in Manotick, Ontario. First used as mill offices, a general store and a post office for the growing #community, it eventually become the family home and now museum. #architecture #HeritageDay

Greater sustainability for our urban landscape! 170 Metcalfe transformed from the outdated Canada Red Cross office tower into a contemporary luxury #apartment building in downtown #Ottawa. Recently completed, CSV developed the functional program, schematic design and design build documents for a new emergency services base located in central Campbellford. We're proud to be a part of the Sod Turning event to launch the Youville Centre’s expansion project! Youville Centre - Ottawa is celebrating 35 years of serving adolescent mothers and their children in the community. This project will increase the Child Development Program by 15 licensed spaces, to 70 in total. A Sod Turning event, on August 31, 2020 at 12:00pm launched the construction phase of the expansion. In the Centre’s outdoor play space, Executive Director Bev MacKill...op welcomed guests and project partners from CSV Architects and McDonald Brothers Construction. Deputy Mayor Dudas spoke on behalf of the Mayor and City Councillor Mathieu Fleury offered his congratulations on this expansion project, while a few children from the Child Development Program played nearby. Sustainable design fosters strong communities! Over the years, CSV has been lucky to have the opportunity to provide sustainable design for various community centres such as the Overbrook Community Centre. The expansion completed in 2012 featured a new full-size gymnasium, washrooms, change rooms, and multipurpose room. It also provided opportunity for upgrades of the existing space to provide an open concept lobby, updated multipurpose rooms, and a generous and lively centr...al corridor and courtyard area, designed to encourage community connections. Sustainable features implemented were modeled to reduce energy usage by 42.5%, saving taxpayers $7,500 per year, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 33 tonnes per year. In total 95.9% of construction waste from the project was diverted from landfill. The new addition is LEED-NC Gold Certified. Emergency preparedness starts with good design! A 10-year Strategic Plan initiated a joint venture between Municipality of Trent Hills and Northumberland County to construct the new combined municipal facility. CSV was retained to consult with the various user groups and design the new facility to be constructed in central Campbellford, Ontario. As a multi-functional building, the design had to accommodate the complex programmatic requirements of the Trent Hills Fire Departm...ent, municipal administrative offices and Council Chambers, municipal Emergency Operations Center, and a detachment of the Northumberland Paramedics. Almost complete, this design-build will be a prominent municipal building and a symbol of civic pride. A large tower element was incorporated as an important design element and stands as a symbolic reference to the tower of the Town’s historic fire hall on the banks of the River. Did you know Canada’s oldest child care centre is in Ottawa? As we continue to work together to stop the #COVID-19 spread, the important work of child care providers is highlighted. Andrew Fleck Children's Services (AFCS) has been providing child care since 1922 at 195 George Street, set in the historic heart of Ottawa’s #Byward Market. It’s Canada’s oldest purpose-built child care facility. One of CSV’s first projects with AFCS was the expansion of their George Street facil...ity with the addition of the Elsie Chan Centre, a 3,200 sq.ft building.. Completed in fall, 2008, the urban cottage expanded programming for the centre with the addition of 40 child care spaces. CSV designed with social sustainability in mind., fostering social development by providing children with a home-like atmosphere in which to grow. Large windows with very low sills provide access to natural light and views for children throughout the facility. Thanks again to our consultant team! Last night Creative Communicators demo! Creative Communicators is a part of Toastmasters International, founded by and for Ottawa Architects and Interior Designers. Toastmasters is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network (143 countries) of clubs (+16,800). The goal of the Creative Communicators Club is to help architects and designers improve their speaking, communication and leadership skills. A moonlit night at Keogan Cabin! Another winter season marked by our CSV team with the annual X-country/snowshoe event in Gatineau Park. A couple of staff new to x-country skiing were brave enough to face the misty moonlit trails. The prize in the middle of the journey - cheese fondue, french bread, salad, wine, savory shortbread and even a cake.
