A new year often inspires New Year’s resolutions. Here’s a great one from the good Dr. (Seuss!) It comes with our wish for health and happiness in 2021 and yes!...playing tai chi anywhere!! together!!! even inside!!!!
Tai Chi’s Bytes Food for Thought The Symbolism of 108 moves in the Tai Chi Set: Mainly, it appears that the number 108 is believed to contain mystic significa...nce and is traditionally considered sacred in Buddhist and other Eastern spiritual practices. I think it is worth mentioning that 108 is a Harshad number* and that the word ‘Harshad’ in Sanskrit means joy bringer. (*an integer that is divisible by the sum of its digits) A Buddhist principle has surfaced during research: As each of the 108 steps are climbed to a Buddhist Temple by one searching for relief from internal struggle, mental torment is metaphorically eliminated, and the seeker’s true nature emerges. By the time the shrine is reached, the seeker is symbolically ready for enlightenment - the state of ‘non-suffering’. In this case, the numeric symbol 108 is combined by the action of climbing - a powerful symbol of striving. In the New Year we will look at the the reasons for, and benefits from, practicing foundations
Happy Holidays to our friends that play Tai Chi together. Looking forward to seeing you all again in 2021.
Good News! Paul has informed me that we can resume indoor practices September 1 week @ 100 Spring Street, Amherst, NS Tuesdays practice 10:30-11:30am... Wednesdays practice 7:00 pm COVID Protocols: We will be implementing a few things to maintain the health & safety for our members that choose to attend class. Upon entering clean/sanitize hands. We have a contactless dispenser located just inside the door. o Alternatively, you can use soap/water in the washrooms o Sanitize your hands before and after class Masks in NS o As most of you are probably aware, as of July 31, it became mandatory to wear non-medical masks in indoor places. o Masks need to be worn while entering and exiting the building, in entryway, getting changed, etc. o While doing the activity wearing the mask is not mandatory. o If the participant can wear the mask while doing the activity it is recommended, but not mandatory. Clean, non-marking footwear allowed on training floor (or socks/barefeet) Practise good hygiene o Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Dispose used tissues in the garbage and wash your hands or use the sanitizer immediately after. o If you don’t have a tissue, cough and sneeze into your elbow, not your hand. o Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Stay home if you're sick, especially if you have a fever or a new cough Social Distancing o We can space 16 people in 2M spots, which are marked on the floor with white sports floor tape o NS Regulations allow bubbles of people in groups of 10 without social distancing so we can modify spacing into groups that are 2M apart, as needed. o Each person is going to have their own comfort zone that we will respect and space accordingly, just let us know. Attendance o We will be keeping attendance for tracing purposes Contact surfaces will be cleaned before and after classes Hope to see you soon! Janice
Tai Chi on the beach - thanks to Ian and Cathy for inviting us to join their practice on the beach this evening. Must do again!
Notice - no outdoor practice @ 100 Spring Street, Amherst on Tuesday August 4
Some locations have started outdoor practices (Shediac, Murray Corner and Port Elgin). In Amherst, we will start Tuesday mornings from 10:30-11:30am in the side parking lot at 100 Spring Street. There is a big tree which provides some shade to that area in the late morning. I highly recommend that you bring a water bottle to hydrate... Washroom facilities are available inside, if necessary No word yet on indoor practices from CTCA. Our zoom gatherings will continue for 2 more weeks, its been a great run (almost 3 months) but with the warm weather and summer schedules its time for a break. Depending on what happens in the Fall, they may be re-scheduled. Janice

Email excerpt from CTCA - ALL CLASSES CANCELLED UNTIL MAY 15-2020 Dear CTCA Members, In light of the growing concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, the CTCA Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel all CTCA classes effective immediately (March 14) for the next 2 months. Cancellations include workshops and intensives scheduled during this time frame. ... The board’s decision is made with reference to Health Canada's guidance on a risk-informed decision-making for social distancing during the COVID-19 global outbreak. The CTCA is a community based organization with a primary concern for the well being of our members, their families and communities, and we strongly feel that this course of action is the responsible decision to make at this time. We anticipate that regular scheduled classes can resume by May 15, 2020, but we will be monitoring the COVID- 19 situation carefully and will update you on any further developments.
