This week we discuss "Pandemic Fatigue"! ...Before if we went out four nights in a row with friends, we’d want a night at home. And if we stayed in for four nights, we’d want to go out. But now we’ve all been in our homes, with no events for months. That limited stimulation has worn us down! Our fight or flight reaction in our brains to dangerhas been on overdrive, with cortisol constantly being pumped into our bodies. The "fight/flight" response is traditionally experienced in small bursts to get away from imminent danger. It being an ongoing response- essentailly chronic stress and the feelings that go along with that are catching up to people. Managing your mindset and controlling your thoughts is more critical now than ever! 1- Find ways to laugh every day 2- Have intentional social connection with people near you 3- Meditate and use belly breathing to bring yourself to a state of rest and restore Be gentle and patient with yourself. The "Power of Yet" This is a... concept taught by Dr Carol Dweck in her Mindset book and lectures. It is also a perfect way to create optimism for yourself. When there is something you can not do, or that challenges you; instead of saying you "can't do it" or you "don't know how to do it" add the word "yet" to the end of the sentence. "I can't do it yet" "I don't know how to do it yet" The simple 3-letter word creates possibility. Even the smallest amount of possibility leads to hope and optimism. CTS Fanshawe and Happy Leader Enterprises are bringing you the next installment of Mindset Mondays "Optimistic October"! As we start to head into the longer and... darker days of the fall and winter season it can really shake your mood, not to mention the negative effect it can have on your mindset. Combine that with the ongoing effects of our current state, staying optimistic may seem like a challenge. Here are three simple things you can do when you feel your mind starting to head south into negative land: 1- Change your physical state to change your mental state- Literally 60 seconds of movement can make all the difference. Do jumping jacks, jump up and down, jog up and down your stairs. Don't overthink it! Just move for 60 secs. 2- Do something you love as your next task- if you feel your mood slipping because your energy levels are draining, either finish your current task or take a break, and intentionally do something you love to do next. Call a favorite customer to check in, think about strategy, balance the books. Whatever makes you happy- do it next! You will feel your mental energy refuel. 3- Box breathe for 60 seconds- it will not only refill your energy tank, it will also decrease your stress tank! What is box breathing? Breathe in to the count of 4. Hold for 4. Exhale for 4. Hold for 4. Repeat 3 to 4 times.
