Health depends far more on the quality of what we eat than the amount of calories. Choosing to eat healthy does not mean that you are on a diet. It means you are dedicated to your wellbeing - physically, emotionally & mentally. When we focus too much on specific results we are hoping to get from eating certain foods or particular diet, we lose touch with our WHY we are putting in the effort in the first place. Our body is an ecosystem that we must maintain to function to t...he best of it's ability. When we choose to focus less not the calories & more on the nutrients, we fuel our ecosystem with proper nourishment to smash all our goals out of the park without expectation. Want Some Truth Bombs? Eating less calories does NOT mean you will get to your health goals Eating less calories does NOT always equal weight loss if you are undernourishing, in-fact it can sometimes do the opposite due to imbalances/digestive distress/inflammation caused by malnourishment Fat does NOT make you fat Fasting is NOT required to be a healthy person Cleansing & detoxing is NOT always good for us Supplements can NOT replace a malnourished diet Carbohydrates are NOT the enemy There is no person in the world that is the exact same & understanding that different ingredients or lifestyles may not always work for you as they do another - speaking with a nutritionist is highly recommended to make any dietary changes to suit your personal requirements

CASSAVA FLOUR PROTEIN PANCAKES The Ingredients: 1/4 cup Bobs Red Mill cassava flour (it's a root - totally grain & gluten free!)... 1/4 cup silken tofu or 2 organic free-range eggs 1/2 ripe banana 1/3 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use JuicePlus French Vanilla!) 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp baking powder Dash nut milk of choice (almond, coconut or cashew are great!) The Method: 1. In a bowl, mash banana & tofu/eggs with a fork until thoroughly incorporated together (think puree texture!) 2. Add your cassava flour, protein powder, baking soda & baking power. Mix together. You don't need to worry about over-mixing as cassava flour can handle it. Add your nut milk to desired texture (usually about 1-2 tbsp). 3. Warm a skillet with coconut oil or grass-fed butter over medium-high heat. Pour pancake batter onto it. Each side takes approximately 3 minutes (check to see if it's bubbling & turning golden brown). Repeat as needed. 4. Top with delicious superfood toppings like hemp seeds, coconut yogurt (I love Yoso or Riviera), nut butters, fresh fruit, berry jams & pure maple syrup or raw honey for sweetness! #happysaturday #pancakesforthewin #eattonourish Head to my journal for more recipes! https://www.cultivateroots.ca/recipes

Rainy Sunday Mornings // Gently broiled grapefruit sprinkled with coconut-mint sugar until golden & freshly cold-pressed rosemary-infused grapefruit juice. GRAPEFRUITS ARE MAGICAL THEY ARE WONDEROUS FOR OUR SKIN HEALTH. WHY? LET'S TAKE A LOOK: ... Grapefruits are 92% water! Yes - that sweeeet sweeeet H2O helps us flush toxins from our body which can help assist with a glowing complexion. As with other citrus fruits, they are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to help with our bodies' natural collagen production due to the critical assistance in the synthesis of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found in our bodies but does decrease as we age. By eating foods rich in vitamin C & amino acids, we can naturally increase the levels of hyaluronic acid & collagen in our bodies! What's collagen? It's the most abundant protein in our body! Basically, it holds our body together (that's how important it is). It plays a huge part with our connective tissue, contributes to the structure & integrity of our skin, and is one of the major players for the building blocks of bones, muscles, skin, tendons & our teeth! Collagen has widely become popular as a supplement option to provide extra collagen into our diets. Equally as important as collagen itself is it's best friend, Vitamin C, so we can enhance our absorption & bodies' natural production of this wonderous protein! *** If you are on certain medications grapefruit may not be the right citrus fruit for you as it can interact with many prescribed drugs. When introducing any new food, new diet, or lifestyle change into your life, I always encourage talking to a licensed practitioner on how to do so SAFELY & effectively! What is your favourite way to get Vitamin C into your body? I love citrus fruits.

Dhal. Dal. One of my all-time favourite soups is full of skin and gut-loving nutrients. It's nourishing, warming, immune-boosting, and super simple to put together, making it a great weekday option! @thisisalkeme sourdough GF bread paired with this cup of lentil stew is perfect. Let's talk turmeric! Its name has become largely popular recently and can be found in a variety of things. It's healing, and inflammation-fighting properties make it a power horse whe...n it comes to benefiting our bodies. Curcumin, the active polyphenol ingredient in turmeric, gives it the vibrant yellow pigment it's known for and is the compound with the superman benefits! Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has been shown to inhibit the growth of certain fungi and bacteria and has proved effective against certain intestinal parasites. To me, the most profound benefit of incorporating turmeric in your diet is its anti-inflammatory benefits. Turmeric lowers the level of messaging molecules that trigger inflammation. It also lowers levels of nitric oxide and can promote healthy immune system responses. Consuming turmeric on its own still has it's benefits but is known to have low bioavailability, meaning it's not easily absorbed and used in our bodies the way it could be! Tips to make turmeric's benefits more bioavailable for us Add freshly ground black pepper. Piperine, a compound found in black pepper, can significantly improve the absorbency curcumins' benefits. Add fat. Turmeric is fat-soluble, meaning it needs fat to help absorb and carry to our bodies tissues efficiently. Suggestions? Coconut milk is excellent - both taste-wise and nutritionally, and is traditionally used often in Eastern cultures as their primary fat option. Ghee is also a brilliant fat to use with turmeric. The list goes on though... avocado oil, coconut oil, grass-fed butter, nut butter, seeds - you name it!
