A big thank you to everyone who has come into the Norfolk County Public Library and adopted a book. It really is the perfect Christmas gift and a gift that kee...ps on giving. We launched the Adopt-A-Book Campaign to help save some of our services and programs from being eliminated due to financial pressures the County is facing. NCPL Development Coordinator Aaron Gautreau shares more about the program and talks about a book he adopted and why he wanted to do it. Merry Christmas everyone.

Today's Guitars For Kids-WATERLOO Region story is somewhat elaborate, so buckle in for a couple minutes. Last year, my old friend Greg Zaluski had some guitars ...he wanted to donate to our program. Greg is a fine singer/songwriter residing in Brantford and I actually was a sideman in his band 30 years ago. While this process was happening, Greg was in the process of purchasing a new home and while doing that had an injury that prevented him from finishing the guitars to get to us. In the meantime, he handed the guitars off to another super old friend in Jeff Havens. I grew up in my teen years kinda hanging around the Jane Gulley (Richard) family where Jeff was an honorary member of the Gulleys. And these guys pretty much taught me what I currently know about bluegrass guitar playing:) Jeff took over the guitars and got em' into shape to go to the GFK. Meanwhile, as Jeff was fixing up these guitars, another longtime friend Tony Duclos, brought Jeff another guitar and amp. Tony is super active in Norfolk County operating the Cornstock Festival and the Birdtown Jamboree. But, Tony is also a member of the The Shoeshine Boys Blues Band and is an amazing harmonica player. The #GFK has partnered with Tony in the past in assisting him with his own work helping youth with music. Ok, if you made it this far, last night Jeff met me with Guy Westbrook at the Fishin' Musician and presented the guitars to our organization. And we are grateful to get them. It's awesome in these tough times that a number of moving parts and generosity's can connect to make something like this happen:)

It means even though we kick ass and have fun, everyone who works on the show gets paid...because they’re all professionals in this field. The vast majority of this crew is local to the Haldimand and Norfolk area...and that’s how I invest money in the local economy, by creating an opportunity to not have to drive to Toronto or Hamilton.
