We were lucky enough to welcome two classes from Arden Elementary :D this fall. Check out their amazing thank you art work! A pop-up card from one class and a picture and note from every student in the other class. Love this one of the giant boulder. Can't decide if it is welcome rock or tower rock? Thanks to Cumberland and the entire region for another successful season. All the profits from the campground go back into programs and improvements at the park with the goal of "creating wonder and connection through outdoor experiences." Highlights of 2020 include a new park interpreter position and free community programs, six new walk-in campsites, two new outdoor classrooms and 11 subsidized school programs. CLWS also gave $27,300 in dividend payments to the Village of Cumberland, which end up being re-invested back into the park, too! Weeklong bookings open Feb 15th, 2021 and general bookings open March 1st, 2021. Book online at cumberlandlake.letscamp.ca. #SocialEnterprise

Thanks to our K/1 friends at Puntledge Elementry School for this lovely note. I was lucky enough to tag along on this program and it was amazing! The students listened so quietly and intently that a yellow bellied sapsucker flew right into our nature classroom and started drilling a hole in a tree in search for sap. This spring, the playground at Lake Park was removed due to safety concerns related to the age of the equipment. CLWS has decided to spearhead the project to replace this playground. A very small playground structure (example below) with some nature elements (not shown), costs $30,000 for purchase and install. CLWS has contributed $15,000 and raised an additional $6400 from local businesses and individuals. Thank you SO MUCH to the following who have contributed: Silver and ...Or Design Co for the nature playground design, Mainroad North Island, Koers And Associates Engineering, Ecofish Research Ltd., Knappett Industries Ltd., HAKAI Energy Solutions, Cumberland Earthworks Ltd, Lafarge Canada, Evergreen Forest Services, @Seeds Natural Food Market, BiblioTaco, Plum Midwifery, The Cumberland Hotel, ROAM Media Inc., Randall's Autobody, @Purely Ayurveda, Currently Cumberland, Little Village Store, Nelson Roofing and Sheet Metal Ltd, Dodge City Cycles, Sara Kempner Photography, Spin Mortgage, Sean Sullivan, Tree Craft, K & T Rock Shop, Rhianna Walz, Meaghan Cursons, 'Nora and Jack' & 'Nadia and Huxley' & 'Jack, Avery & Ruby' and ‘Will and Noah Kufflick’ and 'Harper and Angus' and 'Thunder' as well as the Village of Cumberland for the cedar logs and rocks for the nature elements. If you wish to contribute, now is a great time! Please etransfer to [email protected] and let us know what name or business you would like the donation under. All donors will have their name on a permanent sign at the playground. One of our donors had the brilliant idea of putting it under her kid's names:)

Excited to welcome our first school group of the year on this beautiful day. We offer programs to Comox Valley Schools at a minimal fee to ensure all kids gets to experience outdoor education. We use the profits from the campground, our social enterprise, to make this happen.

New walk-in campsites are coming to Cumberland Lake Park Campground thanks to a grant from Island Coastal Trust and an investment from Cumberland Lake Wilderness Society. This type of pilot project will help diversify and expand camping opportunities by increasing alternative revenue streams, while encouraging low-impact camping and travel methods, says ICET Board Chair Josie Osborne. On a larger scale, adding accommodation in Cumberland is key to ensuring the Village fully captures the additional benefits that overnight visitors can generate for the local economy. http://www.islandcoastaltrust.ca//arts-and-tourism-project
