We are excited to reveal the before and after of our upgraded office kitchen. This renovation was completed with almost 100% locally derived materials and was designed by our multi-talented Legal Assistant, Stephanie Williamson. With support from some of our lawyers, staff, and even their families - we were thrilled to have our team work safely together during such distant times. Thank you to N-Hance Wood Refinishing Kingston and Lakeside Painting for their timely support. Our staff and lawyers are already taking advantage of the extra space for socially distant lunches and the pop of colour that brightens their mornings. Ps: if you really love the kitchen, we are still hiring a Legal Assistant and a Municipal Lawyer .
We are finding joy wherever we can these days, and that certainly includes take-out from some of our favorite local restaurants. Let us know which three-course dinner you are going to try first .
Fred Rogers once said, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping". In many ways, this holiday season was unlike any we've had before. It has been tremendous to see our staff, lawyers, and community successfully navigate our first 12 Days of Local Giving. Through some of the most difficult days of 2020, Kingston has never failed to bring a smile to our faces as we watch it rally together when it is needed most.... Stay safe, #YGK, and keep on helping, in any way you can.
We are pleased to welcome Alexandra Manthorpe to our firm and to congratulate Greg Dobney on becoming a Partner. "The pandemic has really reinforced the importance of having the right people as part of our firm, with the skills and experience necessary to tackle complicated problems," said Managing Partner, Andrea Risk. We look forward to seeing what is to come in 2021 with these exciting new developments on our team. Stay safe, #YGK.
This holiday season, Cunningham Swan Carty Little & Bonham LLP organized a campaign called 12 Days of Giving. They donated to various charities and businesses a...round the community. Today, on the final day of the campaign, Cunningham, Swan, Carty, Little & Bonham LLP presented a $500 gift to UHKF, which will support the COVID-19 relief fund. UHKF is grateful for your generosity! Cunningham, Swan, Carty, Little & Bonham LLP is, increasingly grateful to the healthcare workers and administrators that help us through the most difficult of times. Our 12 Days of Local Giving may be over, but we aren't done quite yet! To bring everyone in the office a little extra local holiday cheer, 100% of our employee Christmas gifts were purchased at YGK businesses this year. Managing Partner, Andrea Risk, took the time to attach a piece of yarn to each workstation and each gift. Bright and early Monday morning, everyone was scrambling around, following their string all around the office to get their gift (while socially distanci...ng, of course!). The office was filled with some much-needed laughter and joy. Stay safe this Christmas and have a very happy holiday season!
DAY 12 On the final day of our 12 Days of Local Giving, we are donating $500.00 to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation to directly support COVID-19 efforts in our community. As we prepare to enter another lockdown, we are increasingly grateful to the healthcare workers and administrators that help us through the most difficult of times. UHKF is currently asking for donations to be directed to the Areas of Greatest Priority and the Comfort Fund in relation to the p...andemic. This holiday season is going to look different than most, but we will get through it with the support of each other and our community. Thank you for following along with our efforts over the last two weeks. We hope that we have inspired you to give back this holiday season, in whatever way you can. Happy holidays, #YGK. Stay safe out there.
Day 11 Today, we picked up our morning coffee for the office from The Grocery Basket. Their delicious and locally roasted coffee quickly turned everyone's Monday around. Like many other #YGK businesses, The Grocery Basket is offering a number of holiday specials including charcuterie boards and gift baskets, making it easy to shop local this season. ... Let us know your favorite local shops for all those last-minute Christmas gifts in the comments below!

Day 10 Day 10 already! Over the last several weeks, we have been collecting items for the Kingston Food Bank- Partners in Mission through a reverse advent calendar program. Every day, for 24 days, our staff and lawyers brought in different high demand items for our community. As our lobby continues to be filled with more and more items, we are continually grateful to have such a generous team and community. There are just a few days left in the calendar before we get to h...and it all over to the food bank. Happy Friday, #YGK. Stay tuned for Day 11/12 of our Local Giving campaign on Monday!
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt our world, youth living in low-income communities are being disproportionately affected. We are proud to support Pathways to Education Canada's efforts to help young people overcome the barriers to education they face.

Last year, every 11 days a woman or child was killed by a man known to them. We encourage #YGK to join us in supporting Luke's Place Support & Resource Centre for Women & Children this month by providing support to women’s anti-violence organizations across the province #WrappedInCourage.
We are thrilled to be a part of the Ontario Living Wage Network and to support their goal of building a more prosperous Kingston. Their work demonstrates that providing a living wage goes beyond survival, allowing earners to have a satisfactory quality of life. We wouldn’t be where we are today without our people, and so it is really important to us that they be paid a wage that allows them to provide for themselves and their families," explained Managing Partner, Andrea Risk.
