Today, we're launching the Restore Services at RSU petition! In May 2020, the new Ryerson Students' Union Executive Committee came into office, and during their tenure 5 full-time unionized employees have received layoff notice. CUPE 1281 has been fighting back and has organized an online petition calling on the RSU to reinstate their employees now! Please sign and share the petition widely! #RestoreRSU #ServicesNotCuts

Members of the Campus Coalition at Ryerson have signed an open letter asking the Ryerson Students' Union - RSU to re-open the Good Food Centre for the 2020-2021 academic year. "Several students have reached out to our organizations regarding concerns about the current closure. Some of our organizations have made our positions known regarding the labour dispute, but the purpose of this letter is to focus specifically on the necessity of the Good Food Centre in building a campu...s that values food security, poverty reduction and anti-stigma for students and workers accessing food banks on post-secondary campuses." Members of the Campus Coalition at Ryerson that have signed this letter include: The Continuing Education Students' Association of Ryerson-CESAR, CUPE 3904, the Ryerson Faculty Association and CUPE 1281. From Fight for $15 & Fairness: Dominion grocery store workers in Newfoundland and Labrador are on strike for fair wages, paid sick days, and job security. Dominion is owned by billionaire Galen Weston's retail giant Loblaws, which cancelled the $2/hr pandemic pay in June despite continuing to make millions in profit during COVID. 75% of Dominion workers earn less than $15/hr and the majority only have part-time hours. Let's support them in winning their strike by:... 1) sharing this video 2) signing this petition: https://bit.ly/3l4Pe9H 3) posting your own "I support Dominion workers" selfie or video. Please be sure to tag Loblaws Unifor Local 597 and use these hashtags: #15andFairness #fairpayforever #CanLab #GalenWeston

The Prime Minister's mandate letter to the federal Minister of Labour confirmed the government's intent to make good on its promise to raise the federal minimum... wage to $15 and implement other improvements to the Canada Labour Code. But as we know from our own experience in Ontario, we can't simply sit back and expect the government to follow through. Share this if you agree a $15 minimum wage is long overdue.
