NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh speaking to CUPE workers from all over Canada. Don’t forget to vote on October 21st!
Tonight is the night! We will be having a delegation in front of the Library Board to discuss the provincial budget cuts that have already impacted services at Essex County Library. It's at 7pm at the Tecumseh branch and it is open to the public. If you care about your libraries please come out in support. https://www.huffingtonpost.ca//ontario-library-cuts_a_23/
As you have undoubtedly heard, the Ford government has made significant cuts to the Southern Ontario Library system and the Ontario Library Services North. These cuts are horrible for library services province wide but are affecting us here in Essex County by eliminating our InterLibrary Loan service. CUPE 2974 will be delegating to the Essex County LIbrary Board meeting, Thursday May 22, at 7pm at the Tecumseh Branch. If you care about your library system please come out to the meeting and let them know. We hope to see you there! https://www.huffingtonpost.ca//ontario-library-cuts_a_237/
Rally for Healthcare, Toronto, April 30th
CACO Chair Jason Fraser speaking on behalf of the Ontario Paramedic Working Group: "Paramedics are already stretched to the max. Too often when you call 911 you are waiting too long for help. Doug Ford's cuts need to stop." #protectpublichealthcare #cupe #caco #ochu
Every year on April 28 we pay our respects to, and remember, the thousands of workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness as a result of work-related incidents. We also honour the many families and friends who have been deeply affected by these tragedies. Every worker has the right to return home safe and sound at the end of each work day.... By working together with employers, workers and our health and safety partners we can prevent worker injuries and deaths before they occur.
Doug Ford and his PC government have cut funding to The Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS) and Ontario Library Service - North (OLS-North) by 50% or more. This will result in the loss of even more jobs and, more importantly, it reduces library services to those who need them the most - small rural library systems, remote Northern systems and yes, even services to us here in Windsor/Essex. Please sign the petition and email the Minister of Tourism and Culture Michael Tibolo [email protected] and Premier Doug Ford https://correspondence.premier.gov.on.ca//fee/default.aspx to tell them you don't agree with these cuts.
Don't be fooled by claims of redundancy. Our paramedic services already serve "regions" as opposed to "cities". Amalgamating to yet bigger regions will result in service decline and could start the slippery slope of more and more privatization. Let your MPP know that your emergency services should NOT be cut - in any way.
Libraries are the only public service that is completely free, there is no requirement for use, no financial investment needed. And as such they are most important to marginalized members of society, especially lower income. Doug Ford and his PC party are now coming after libraries...and their cuts will affect services at libraries across Ontario. Let your MPP know you don't want these cuts.
