The new owner, David will be taking over as of Friday. He has a lot of pastry experience and our staff will remain the same. On Thursday I will be providing mini cupcakes as a thank you for all your support. Hope you are able to stop by. XOXO Jaclyn

Cake of the day! So much fun to make!!!
I read this this morning...gave me a giggle. I can so relate to kids saying the darnedest things....... My 9 year old daughter has Type 1 Diabetes (dx'd age 24 months, 2005) and Celiac Disease (dx'd age 5 years, 2008). Shortly after her Celiac dx, her daddy was taking her and her sisters to CFA, and the following conversation ensued. (Note -- I copied this from a previous blog post. I don't use my kids real names there.) Jason: "I need to check your sugar."... Sugar: "I'm not high." (Neighbor tables begin to pay attention now. We're used to it. Sometimes we forget that not everyone in society has seen a little girl getting her fingers poked while wearing an insulin pump.) Jason: "Well, I still need to check you." (Tiara tries to hand Sugar a chicken nugget while Jason is checking her blood sugar.) Sugar: (**LOUD WITH EMOTION**) "I CAN'T HAVE WEED!!!" (Neighbor tables continue to stare...unsure whether to call 911 or chuckle themselves.) Jason: "WHEAT, Honey. WHEAT...you can't have wheat!!!" First she's not HIGH and then she can't have WEED. Who the heck are her parents? SHEESH! See more
hahaha! We get this response a lot actually! Love it!

My journey into cake decorating really started the day I met one special lady. While interning in the basement for a cake decorator and working into the late hours of the night, we exchanged crazy stories about our similar childhood backgrounds. I never would have imagined that night could have opened so many doors for me through meeting my friend Roxanne!Thank you for being you! Please visit our new website at www.Cupoftea.ca and see what she's been up to :-)
Happy New Year! For the month of January we will be closed the following days: All Sundays in January and Monday January 5th. I have decided in order to take a break, I need to close the bakery ;-)Hours will resume to normal in February.
Hours update: Our bakery will be closing at 2pm on New Years Eve! Wishing everyone a safe a happy New Year!
Come by today and pick up some last minute treats/deserts that everyone can enjoy for the holidays!
A few years ago, I had out-of-country guests I wanted to impress. I wanted to offer them a Canadian experience. So I got a pretty gift bag and filled it with things you can only find in Canada. Things like samples of Ontario ice wine, all-dressed and ketchup chips, coffee crisp and crispy crunch chocolate bars. And, since I make and sell nanaimo bars and maple-flavoured treats, I put some in too. People remember experiences more than things, and to this day, they still rave about this thoughtful care package.
Like you, we're scrambling with to-do's this week. There's a rush to get everything done before the holidays. This year, we'd like to actually *be* home for the holidays. So we try to find a moment each day to break and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the holidays, and most importantly, being fully present in our conversations with colleagues and loved ones - because those are the moments we'll remember for years to come (not what we were scrambling to get done during those moments!)
So many people suffer from food intolerances. If you're serving pre-bought hors-d'oeuvres, cookies or crackers, cut the ingredient labels from their boxes and keep them in a little stack. If a guest asks "Is there any [ingredient] in these?", you'll have a quick and discrete way to reference ingredients.
The holiday season brings many invitations to new restaurants. This can be stressful for those with food intolerances. I like to call the restaurant ahead of time and ask for recommendations based on my intolerances. That way, I can spend more time engaging with friends and family, and less time stressing out about what I can eat on the menu.
