Resources to help CUPW locals still without sufficient anti-C19 safety measures. Please share widely. Let's keep up the pressure wherever we can! Solidarity
After months of pretending everything is fine, the Kenney government was forced to acknowledge our escalating public health crisis by announcing improved safety measures and declaring a state of emergency on Nov 24. The question now is: will the measures be strong enough, soon enough, to prevent a full-scale collapse of our health system? This is of dire relevance to our members because, as the provincial government gambles with our health, the probability of our members (and all Albertans) getting infected, drastically increases. Last week 10 of our members were tested, or presumptive, C19 positive. So far this week, there have been 13 more cases announced in our area of operations. (Full report linked)

Local C19 Update - Mask Policies At Work - CPC Quarantine Leave - Kenney Being Kenney - Alberta In Crisis "The choice made by the Alberta government to allow contamination to spread means that more of our members will continue to get sick. Until a health system collapse or public pressure forces Kenney to change direction, we are left hoping that those infected make a full recovery and that the measures we have in place keep preventing a workplace outbreak."

CUPW730 at AFL Edmonton Rally to Support Healthcare Workers
The action AUPE members took last week to protect our health care system was not only heroic but deeply instructive of how the labour movement needs to prepare itself if it is committed to defeating governments attacking workers. In this way, AUPE’s struggle clearly mirrors our own: appeals and court challenges will not win us the day, we need to keep reforming our union to fully embrace an organizing programme. Any opportunity to support other unions doing this necessary work should be wholeheartedly embraced and encouraged. Join us Nov 5, to show your support!
