Curated Life Canada 19.02.2021

It’s okay to be still. Those are the words I had in draft for the last 5 months. We just celebrated International Women’s Day with a timely MASTERCLASS on cashflow @staplesCanada and a panel discussion on self-love with @PeaceCollective. We were also in the midst of planning an epic 5 year anniversary celebration for our magazine.... But then COVID-19 hit our city and there were so many unknowns. Was this just a bad flu? How long will the shut down be? What should we do next? Across the world, women - especially Black women - have carried the burden of this pandemic disproportionately. These inequities weren’t caused by the virus but the COVID-19 crisis has widened the wealth gap and brought systemic injustices to the front page. As a woman who has faced barriers at the intersections of gender, race and socioeconomic status, the need to address these issues is why I created this magazine in the first place (much more on this later). Yet, I had to be still. As someone who always problem solves and pivots quickly, I’ve learned that being still is not a passive process. It is not inaction. It is an exercise of faith; knowing The One who holds the universe together is holding you together too. While doing this internal work, I learned that I can’t fix everything on my own. I am not even meant to. Instead, I needed to use my energy to build capacity to do greater work. In other words, I needed to focus on building resilience - the ability to bounce back. As we see a drop in cases and beautiful summer weather, many seem to be in a rush to go back to business as usual. But the reality is, our normal wasn’t working for everyone. And we can’t stop our fight for a better future just because a hashtag has stopped trending. If this moment doesn’t inspire you to curate a better life for yourself and others, what will? - Jules #dreamplanbuildcurate #editorsletter #resilience #masterclassathome #womeninbusiness #womenentrepreneurs #millennialwomenentrepreneurs @ Toronto, Canada

On March 8, 2020, we celebrated International Women's Day with a special MASTERCLASS at @staplescanada Studio in Toronto, Canada. During the class, we learned about the essentials of cash flow from @alexfrombdc. We were also joined by @bushclass, founder of Bond Illustration, as our featured the start-up story. Here are three things we learned from Shayla: ... 1. Diversify your revenue streams; ensure that at least one of these streams is passive income or a consistent partnership that will drive consistent income 2. Opportunities will lead to more opportunities. Deal flow can be just as important as cash flow; even if the job doesn’t pay in cash 3. Save more money than you think you need to Thank you Shayla being a part of this special event and for your support over the years. Special thanks also to @staplescanada @bdc_ca @panago_pizza @ok.kombucha @topopcornco @peacecollective @tealeavesco and @popupflowershopinc for helping to make this class possible. Looking for more?
