TBT Did you know that Vancouver is home to pivotal art agitators and lovers? . Wil Aballe Art Projects is a gem in the East Hastings strip for interdisciplinary and new media art. . A few weeks ago, we visited WAAP to check out Patryk Stasieczek's solo exhibition 'Benign Stupor'. We were captured by the painterly and plastic qualities of his photographic studies of Polypropylene; a sturdy and very inflexible material that Patryk managed to stretch and push to it's malleab...le limits. . 'Stasieczek’s new photographic works are a continued investment into the material techniques of image making through colour. Polypropylene plays center stage in this series of studio photographic works, a material used by the artist to control and amplify light in his past photographic installations and work spaces, and broadly used in construction as an impermanent material. In this work, polypropylene becomes malleable in a visceral manner: heated, stretched, and stressed to the point of breaking, its surface results in a mix of geometric forms and swathes of colour punctuated by intrusions of solid chromatic fields.
