Let’s talk abut hair fall out and what’s normal First off, what you’re seeing pictured here is my normal hair fall out after a week of no washing/brushing. This is what comes out after I finger comb in the shower and brush through my wet hair with product in it. THIS is MY normal. What’s normal for you may look a little different, but let’s go through some key factors about hair fall.... 1. The typical person loses about 50-100 hairs per day. 2. The average person has at least 100,000+ hairs on their head, so to lose 50-100 is NBD. 3. Each strand of hair goes through a 2-5 year lifecycle! 4. The growth phase is called the anagen phase and that’s the phase the majority of your hairs are on your head! 5. Hair grows on average about a centimeter a month! If you feel you are having more hair fall out than you would normally, these are typical things that could be causing it: 1. You started washing your hair less often, causing more hairs to be ready to come out when brushing! (Curls don’t shed throughout the day as easily as straight hair, so most of ours come out in the shower and a brush!) 2. Excessive washing and brushing can cause extra stress on your hair, causing more fall out. 3. Bleaching your hair (which I do, but with a well educated curl trained stylist ) can also cause additional hair loss. If you’re still feeling like your additional hair loss is not associated with the above, I’d highly recommend setting up an appointment with your Dermatologist, because there could be something more serious where hair loss is a side effect.
