The 29 member agencies of the Comox Valley Coalition to End Homelessness have worked tirelessly for the past 5 years to plan, coordinate, recommend, advocate for, and implement responses to homelessness and affordable housing in the Comox Valley. The number of people experiencing homelessness has increased during the pandemic, as have the needs for varied supports. Increased coordination during this precarious time is needed to ensure the Coalition can continue to respond appropriately.

The #COVID19 pandemic has required emergency actions and reactions from organizations in the Comox Valley. Through round 2 of the #ECSFund, CVCF alongside Community Foundations of Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada is continuing support of Cumberland Community Schools Society Community School Society’s Food Share program through February 2021 with a grant of $10,000.

Lush Valley Food Action Society has provided over 23,000 hot meals to vulnerable members of our community since the beginning of the pandemic. The pandemic shows no signs of slowing down and nether does Lush Valley Food Action Society so CVCF in collaboration with Community Foundations of Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada is pleased to provide $15,169 in #ECSFunds to support the Hot Meals Delivery Program from January until March 2021.

CVCF in collaboration with Community Foundations of Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada provided $6,201 in #ECSFund support to Glacier View Lodge to support safety during patient visits with family. Glacier View will use the funds to purchase additional screening supplies, barriers, PPE and masks.

The Comox Valley Coalition to End Homelessness , alongside the Comox Valley Transition Society has been working tirelessly to provide our community’s most vulnerable residents with access to the supports they need through the Connect Centre. CVCF in collaboration with Community Foundations of Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada provided $10,000 to support the Connect Centre’s Dinner Program.

#COVID19 is impacting communities across Canada differently, with some populations experiencing increased vulnerability. CVCF in collaboration with Community Foundations of Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada is pleased to provide $5,000 in funding to the Comox Valley Senior Support Society for counselling support for low income seniors. This program is critical in combating the impacts of prolonged isolation.

Food security has been a major focus of our COVID-19 emergency grants this year and we have been able to support both Lush Valley Food Action Society and Cumberland Community Schools Society throughout this year and into early 2021 as both organizations continue to deliver critical programs in our community.
