Right under the trail sign at the intersection of the trail and the First Line West Garafraxa, you'll see on the north side of the trail quite a bit of garlic mustard. The plant you see is a garlic mustard rosette that in less than a months time will have white flowers and soon after thousands of seeds. It's a good time to dig up the rosettes before they have a chance to seed. Around the rosettes you'll see seedlings from last years seed crop :(
If you see shrubs tagged with this label, you'll know it's an invasive plant species! I was out today on the trail between Garthshore St and First Line West Garafraxa tagging buckthorn and invasive honeysuckles. Have a look!
The count is in! 180 yellow-tagged invasive species were removed from the Elora Cataract trail on Nov. 29. Thanks to all the volunteers!
Here's a Nature Manitoba "European Buckthorn Best Management Practices" document that is very useful: http://winnipeg.ca//NaturalistServices/Invasive/PDF/NM_Buc
Here we are using the extractigator to rip out a buckthorn!
