Calling all NEW FEMALE CYCLIST CycleFitCHICKS Early Bird Registration is open. Deadline Feb 28 www.cyclefitchicks.ca Where the Beginners are Welcomed and the Advanced are Challenged... Don't worry you advanced ladies, we'll be ready for you too ;o) Here are just some of the reasons why you should join this summer. CFC 2021 Season Update Already thinking ahead to outdoor cycling this spring/summer? The CFC Board has been meeting regularly (virtually of course!) to plan for an amazing 2021 cycling season. Here's what we've been discussing (all to be confirmed in the spring, based on public health, FQSC and OCA guidelines): The CFC Spring Social will take place online in mid-April, exact date TBD (Watch for the Event posting in early March) As in 2020, as soon as it is possible to ride outdoors (probably mid-April), we'll start posting weekly 'proposed routes'- some of our favourites, varied distances- for you to ride on your own or with friends/family The CFC Learn to Ride and Bike Maintenance clinics will be held on several dates in April and May. Check the Event postings for dates and details The weekly Monday Night Skill sessions will start the first week in May. Meet-up at Tunney's Pasture! The CFC Group Ride Programme will launch in early May and extend to late September/early October For the 2021 season, we will continue to offer group rides on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays as well as one evening during the week (day TBD) We are revamping our Saturday rides: Adding an extra levelled ride (so offering 5 Saturday rides instead of 4), reviewing the criteria for each ride level and renaming the groups to better reflect the participants CFC 's success as a club is due to the many members that volunteer throughout the season- mainly as Group Ride Leaders, but also helping to organize activities such as our July picnic and ride. When you register for the 2021 season, please consider checking off the volunteer box! We can't wait to see all of you again, out on the road. In the meantime, ride on!

Did you know that you could be DEVELOPING POOR PEDALING FORM from training on your trainer? New studies show that the majority of new cyclists and experienced cyclists that are hitting the trainer this winter to keep or gain fitness could be becoming 10% LESS efficient. Let's think about your current habits while sitting on the trainer?... Are you hammering up a storm on Zwift? Spending the majority of your ride at 70RPM Here's the thing: The one and only thing we can control, no matter what type of trainer you are sitting on, or riding style outside is your PEDAL TECHNIQUE. Poor Pedal form = Dead Spots = Wasted Energy = your training becomes 10% less efficient. WHAT IF you found a CYCLING SKILLS COURSE that taught you the fundamental skills needed to IMPROVING Pedal Form + ELIMINATING the Dead Spots + INCREASING Energy output = EFFICIENCY increases by 10% Our 12wk or 8wk CYCLING SKILLS COURSE offers the fundamental for all Cycling skills: Pedal Technique Hill Climbing Strength Speed Through 12wks - 90min Coach lead sessions. And to answer our question of the day as discussed during our intermediate ride .... Cold air is denser than warm air, which increases the amount of drag on you and your bikeand thus increases how hard you have to work to maintain the same speed.. The Intermediate riders didn't get across the ferry to Montebello...but we DID rescue a kitten!

We have only 2 more weekends of Group Rides left!! Sad --I know. Does anyone out there have any great suggestions for either 50, 70 and/or 100K destination routes? At this point in the season, most of us are happy to drive 30-45 min from home for remote starts. We've done: Montebello, Dunrobin/Woodlawn, Chelsea/Gats, Vals des Monts, Merrickville, Winchester/Hayville, Manotick, Almonte, Carleton Place and of course lots of Kanata, Stittsville, Masson, Cumberland, East end rides, centre-town rides. List your favourites. There is always room for new, good routes.
Who else loves this little beauty?
What do you like most about Group Riding?
Oct 12 is the end of Parkways being open on Sundays to cyclists.
Anyone thinking of winter riding?
Some gems we look forward to ..a hot cup of java...and some ...not so much...like muddy streaks on our shorts from rainy weather. We ALWAYS see many cool things along the way. Multiple rides, drill nights coming to a close in early fall and group riding.
Lots of specTACULAR riding weather left. Due to Covid our season was delayed...but look what we have been missing when our season ends in August!!! All the beautiful fall rides! Jibe to some country beats..turn up your sound.
