Attention: CYPT CLASSES UPDATE As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to shut down our weekly drama classes last week, and unfortunately, it doesn't look like that situation is going to change anytime soon. Even if we could meet right now, our kids' safety is our top priority, and we want to be doing whatever we can to keep our community healthy. Therefore, starting this Monday March 30, CYPT drama classes will be offered ONLINE for the remainder of the Winter class term! If you are a registered class participant, you will receive an email with more instructions. We've got some fun ideas planned to keep our kids creative, playful, and engaged during this time, and we can't wait to see you all soon through the magic of the internets. :) In the meantime, stay safe, healthy, and creative!

A Message from West Village Theatre, We at the West Village Theatre, which includes resident companies Calgary Young People’s Theatre and Ghost River Theatre, are monitoring the situation regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) very closely and are taking extra precautions at this time. Special attention is being given to our regular cleaning regime and common surfaces are being sanitized at a more frequent rate. In addition to this, we will be spacing out our seating to help wi...th close contact with other patrons and will be suspending snacks and alcohol sales at concession; however non-alcoholic beverages will be available. We are kindly requesting that any guests of the West Village Theatre stay at home if they have recently travelled outside of Alberta, are in the category of vulnerable individuals (including older adults and those with serious chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease), or show signs of any sickness. Currently, the risk in Alberta is still assessed as low. We are taking this day by day as the information and recommendations have been evolving on an ongoing basis. The current production of Runs in the Family scheduled at West Village Theatre by Calgary Young People’s Theatre will host gatherings of under 100 patrons. This meets the current recommended standards of low-risk public gatherings. Our decisions may change as the situation evolves. Our decisions are guided by the health and safety of our audience, volunteers, staff, and community. For updates and current information on Coronavirus (COVID-19) please visit www.albertahealthservices.ca. For updates on the West Village Theatre please visit our social media, our website www.westvillagetheatre.com, and also our resident companies sites at www.cypt.ca and www.ghostrivertheatre.com. Thank you, Kate Stadel Board President West Village Theatre

For those looking for more information about how to celebrate Rachel or support her family during this difficult time. https://calgarycrematorium.com//2/Rachel-Mah/obituary.html

Calgary Young People's Theatre 23.07.2020

It is with a broken heart we must announce the passing of one of our CYPT family. Our beloved Rachel Mah passed away suddenly on Monday. She was 15. I’m so sorry to post this news this way, but we wanted to make sure everyone knew before the funeral. Rachel last appeared on stage as #00 (the Goalie) in the 2018 CYPT/Verb production of The Wolves. In years prior, Rachel appeared in multiple CYPT shows, including Peter Pan, Macbeth, No Exit, Atlantis, Richard III, The Lost P...rince, and The Curse of the House of Atreus. She also performed professionally in Verb Theatre’s production of Blackbird and Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol. She was deeply loved here at Calgary Young People’s Theatre and will be missed more than we can possibly say. A celebration of life will be held on January 25 from 2-3pm at the Chapel of the Bells at 2720 Centre Street North, and absolutely ALL are welcome. The family has asked that the event be a celebration of life, and that guests please wear colour to celebrate the colour and life Rachel gave to the world. There is also a public viewing on Jan. 24th from 6-8pm that you are welcome to attend. We will post more information here when we have it, but we hope many of you can attend the celebration of life on the 25th to help her parents, family, and friends through this impossible time. We will be sharing stories of our friend a great deal in the weeks to come, and we encourage you to consider writing down some of your favourite feelings or memories of Rachel to share with her family. If you have any questions, or if there is any way we can support you during this difficult time, please contact Jamie at cypt[at]cypt.ca

From our friends at Ghost River Theatre! -- Calgary’s Ghost River Theatre and Downstage Theatre are jamming with UK-based Bucket Club theatre company on a new project around the theme of extinction. On November 4th and 5th, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM, we invite the Calgary community to come out to West Village Theatre to join us in this exploration. On these afternoons, the artistic companies are excited to explore herd/flock movement. Participants will be led through an adap...table series of movement activities to see how a large and varied group of humans move through space together. Participants of all ages, movement abilities, trained or untrained, are invited to join this experiment. The artists are keen to have the most varied group of participants possible to accurately and artistically reflect our species. This is a free community activity. Please wear comfy clothes for moving around and bring indoor/movement friendly footwear. A water bottle is strongly recommended. You are welcome to join us for both afternoons, as each day will be a little different. The artists are eager to work with a large group of participants: so bring your friends, children, family members, and colleagues out for an afternoon of artistic movement exploration. Accessibility Notes: - There are no change tables at West Village Theatre - For little ones, we recommend bringing your own snacks/toys - West Village Theatre is somewhat wheelchair accessible, but the bathrooms pose significant barriers: bathrooms do not have handrails, doors into the 2 bathrooms are standard width opening into the bathroom, sink/paper towels are not wheelchair-considerate, and transferring in the bathroom is a tight fit. - Access to the theatre is via the alleyway at the back of the building. Depending on snowfall levels, the alley may be rough to traverse. The doors do not open automatically. Location and Transportation: West Village Theatre, 2007 10 Ave SW Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/yQUfiFLR85F2 You will need to enter off the back alley look for the Ghost River Theatre logo on the door. If you are taking Calgary Transit, probably the easiest way to get here is to walk from the Sunalta C-Train station, which is about 500m east of the theatre on 10th Avenue SW. If you are driving - there is limited residential parking in the area. Please don’t park in the spaces in front of the theatre. PLEASE RSVP BY FOLLOWING THE TICKET LINK IF YOU ARE JOINING US! https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/human-herding-a-community-movem
