The holidays are fast approaching and unfortunately so is another lockdown. Parents, you deserve a medal for navigating the many up's and downs and everything in between that this year has thrown your way . . With more time being spent at home with your energetic little ones during the lockdown and now with Christmas fast approaching. I have gathered a few fun indoor holiday themed activities for you to consider that is fun for the whole family. .... Stack the Gifts - Wrap various sizes of empty gift boxes. Have each child attempt to stack as many boxes on top of each other. The goal of the game is to see who can stack the most number of boxes before it topples over. The child with the highest amount of stacked boxes wins. This game can be played in teams or pairs. . Guess what's in the stocking - Fill a stocking with goodies such as small toys, candy canes, chocolate, silly putty, mini slinky, stickers, card games e.t.c. Let your child feel the contents of the stocking and guess what's in it. (Provide hints if it's difficult to feel the contents). The child with the most correct guesses wins. . - Reindeer Inflatable Ring Toss - You can purchase this online via various retailers. Inflate the antlers and rings and have your child toss the rings towards you wearing the antlers and hope for the best. If you would like to get creative & crafty you can paper mache antlers and rings . Christmas Bingo - Print off a free coloured Christmas themed bingo cards/ the cards to draw from. Grab some markers, marshmallows, or candy for your child to use to mark off spots. Have one person call out as they draw the cards from the drawing pile and your child will place a marker on that spot. Once someone has five in a row they shout out bingo and they win that round! . . All of these games are virtual friendly to engage and play against other families. What are your fun at home game ideas? . . #postpartumdoula#christmasgames#christmasiscoming#familytime#qualitytime#bettertogether#covidchristmas#ontario#durhamregionmoms#durhamregion#doulas#doulalove See more

It is that time of the year again and the decision whether to get your flu-shot or not can be daunting; especially for expecting and breastfeeding mothers during a global pandemic. . . Pregnant women experience changes in their immune system, heart, and lungs during pregnancy that make them more susceptible to developing a severe illness from the flu, as well as women up to two weeks postpartum. .... . Studies have shown that getting a flu shot reduces a pregnant woman’s risk of being hospitalized with the flu by an average of 40 percent . . Pregnant women who receive a flu vaccine are also protecting their babies from the flu for the first few months postpartum as newborns are too young to be vaccinated . . Preterm labour and premature birth are more likely to occur in women who have had the flu compared to pregnant women who have not developed the flu . . Although there are many benefits of receiving your flu shot, it may not be for everyone. Please be kind and understanding before judging someone else for making decisions they feel is best for their body & family. If you have questions always speak to your healthcare provider. . . What are your pregnancy flu shot experiences? Raise your hand if you've received infant & newborn advice via online, from loved ones, or various healthcare professionals that have left you wondering what is best for your baby? . . There are many myths about infant care. Here are a few examples: .... . Myth #1 - You will instantly bond with your baby Truth: It is common to believe that you will instantly bond with your baby; but like any other relationship bonding is a process that will take time to build closeness. Some mothers may feel that intense gushy love feeling right away and some may not. Both of these scenarios are normal. . Myth #2 - Newborns can't see Truth: Newborns have blurry vision and can only see things clearly in black and white from about 8-12 inches away. . Myth #3 - Infants need a bath everyday Truth: It is okay to bathe your baby everyday if they enjoy it but infants do not need to have a bath everyday. Their face, neck, hands and genital areas can be kept clean with a sponge bath. . Myth#4 You can spoil your baby Truth: Infants need constant attention so that they are able to grow emotionally, physically, and intellectually.Responding to your baby's cues frequently will not spoil them. . Myth #5 - A teething baby can develop a fever Truth: It's true that teething may cause a slight increase in your baby's temperature but there is no evidence to suggest that it would spike enough to cause a fever. Teething tends to occur between 6-24 months, which is also when babies are more prone to develop infections. . . What are some myths you have heard of?
