I'm very impressed by Leah Gazan's speech to the House of Commons (or is it the Senate?) in support of Bill C-5. She is a FN NDP MP from Winnipeg. She makes a big deal about a misinterpretation she has of "Dances With Wolves" which diminishes the power of her words. She tells her life's story as people have told me theirs. Unfortunately, not enough settlers have heard them but here she is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeSJhCXohAU&feature=youtu.be

John Bolton, who has been pressing the US government for 25 years to attack Iran, is very happy with the killing of Sulamanyi. John Bolton has also said "the UN is crap", "there is one superpower in the world and it is us". The court of public opinion disagreed then - the USA has just made itself the pariah of the world now. Will Boris Johnson support him? I doubt that the EU will and there are countries in the global South who have already isolated the USA. Phil Ochs wrote ...and performed his song, "Cops of the World" in 1966 at the height of the disastrous US involvement in Vietnam. I heard it for the first time after returning from South America in 1967 and met a NYTimes reporter who had written a book using material that the Times wouldn't print - because it criticized US policy and interference in Central and SA. Then I read his book. I was ripe for this song. See more

Could wintering in the Southern States or on the BC coast be considered a "green" thing? A migration from areas that require considerable energy to make habitable to areas where much lower heat-output, the most "expensive" use of energy, is required to be comfortable. We would need to make the migration itself less energy demanding - in this case petroleum dependent. The most efficient way to travel is by train - so we could open or reuse existing corridors for rail lines Sas...katchewan to Arizona and Saskatchewan - BC coast. It would spawn an entire new industry looking after the Saskatchewan summer homes - and conversely the Arizona winter homes - with a wide range of home services. That would allow us to be as little disturbed in our amenities. as possible. The housing boom in the South would continue. It would be easier to keep elderly people active and healthier - which means that they are more productive. Just a little tangential thinking.

Is the Green Platform too idealistic? It is absolutely practical. It is idealistic to imagine that we can have "business as usual" and tackle such a threat as climate change presents. It is wet dreams and fantasy to imagine that we can build more pipelines and reach even the low targets of the Kyoto agreement. ... It is bizarre to promise lower taxes to citizens at the same time as promising lower taxes to corporations and reducing the deficit. Get with climate mitigation because we are not going to stop the change!
