Twins! Pretty rare in cows (as opposed to being common in sheep). This momma cow is named after Dave’s mom. (Ettenna, which is Annette spelled backwards). We name all the cattle born in a certain year with the same beginning letter. These 2 calves we called Hey and Hay :) They were born at the end of December, and although we had to help the smaller one by bottle feeding it , they are doing well and Ettenna is a watchful momma cow. Normally, we don’t calve in the winter, but we had 6 cows that were out of sync with the rest of our spring calving group - next time they will calve in the spring with our main group.

They play a huge role by sequestering carbon, creating healthy and rich soil life on our farm and nourishing our family and customers. I have much respect for these animals and if you don't come from a farming background you may wonder how I can not get attached to them? Although it is difficult at times, I know that personally my body type needs animal meats as many people do. I honour these animals by using every part and thanking them for the nourishment they provide us. They have a healthy, happy life when they are on our farm and we can feel good about that. ".
