In 2018 Sue Sherwin was chosen as a "Dal Original"one of 52 people who inspired us, challenged us and helped build Dalhousie into a national and international post-secondary institution. Her work led the way to the new field of feminist bioethics and she shaped research and policy across disciplines in Dalhousie, as well as nationally and internationally. We are pleased to hold her papers at the Dalhousie University Archivesnewly processed and available through our online catalogue.https://findingaids.library.dal.ca/susan-sherwin-fonds

While not without controversy, Thomas Raddall remains a significant figure in Canadian literature as well as in the world of historical preservation and restoration in Nova Scotia. His legacy includes an Atlantic fiction award, a provincial park and a research centre in his name, and, of course, his large collection of personal papers, which are held at Dalhousie University Archives. Earlier this year we opened and digitized his extensive diaries, written between 19191994. T...his week, some 60,000 digitized photographs are available to view in our online catalogue. Annotated albums as well as individual photographs document Raddall's life and work, and provide snapshots of Nova Scotia’s past, including events such as the Halifax Explosion and places including Sable Island and the villages and back country of Queen’s County. Also remembered as a keen outdoorsman, here he is photographed while fishing at Eagle Lake, ca. 1940. https://findingaids.library.dal.ca/thomas-head-raddalls-pho See more

The Archives is proud to be working with the Nova Scotia LGBT Seniors Archive, a collaborative, community-based project dedicated to creating a searchable and accessible collection of materials that highlight the various contributions and advancements made by older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals, as well as individuals across Nova Scotia who experience other sexual and gender orientations. Learn more about the project and the process by watching this recent PRIDE online festival noon-hour panel, which includes our own Lydia Hunsberger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZlKRzyi8TQ

This picture of a lounge and smoking area (!) area in the Killam Library, ca. 1978, doesn't seem at odds with its current near-empty state. While the library remains closed to patrons, there is a curbside pickup program in place. And as of this week you can also book 3-hour study spaces in the Wallace McCain Learning Commons and the Collaborative Heath Education Building Learning Commons. https://libraries.dal.ca//book-a-study-room-or-computer--n
