From one of my favourite papers of the past 2 years, and from a literature that, according to some, does not exist: Because the motivational salience of a CS is computed independent of its predictive value (e.g. Flagel et al. 2007; Robinson & Berridge 2013; Robinson & Flagel 2009), animals can potentially seek CSs faster and/or for longer under uncertainty, even if they learned that those CSs are not reliable. Patrick Anselme and Onur Güntürkün (2019)... How foraging works: uncertainty magnifies food-seeking motivation DOI: 10.1017/S0140525X18000948 See more

Great response by Kathryn Lord et al. By the way, it is worth reading the original article, as well as all the responses, AND their replies (like this one) to the arguments. I was not necessarily open to the idea of sacking the domestication syndrome until I started reading about bird domestication (especially ducks) and then realize that, in birds, we may see the opposite process (e.g., larger brains, larger everything in fact, with some rare exceptions) if anything at all. https://www.sciencedirect.com//a/abs/pii/S0169534720302640
