Random acts of kindness occur daily in the Dalhousie community, but today, we want to thank our generous alumni volunteers and donors. Your efforts and contributions make Dalhousie a better place to study, work, and grow. We couldn't do it without you. The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation #RandomActsofKindness
In tomorrow's episode of Open Dialogue Live, Dalhousie alumnus Travis McDonough (BScK’94), creator of the Halifax-based software company Kinduct, will explain how the company's Human Performance Platform monitors and consolidates athlete performance, health and wellness, and injury-related data. It empowers athletes, coaches and trainers to make informed decisions that optimize results. McDonough will be joined by Brandon McDaniel, director, player performance for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and third-year student Shamar Burrows of Dal Tigers Basketball. Dalhousie’s executive director of athletics, Tim Maloney, will join as host. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/open-dialogue-live-health-tech-
Wilson says society needs to move beyond simple awareness. ‘The next step is actually acting and putting things into practice,’ says Wilson. ‘Whether that’s rewriting policies or making things more equitable as a whole. All the policies now are written to benefit a certain group of people and that’s why we see the dominance of groups of people in society. If we’re able to change that, we’ll see a shift.’
Today on Heritage Day, Nova Scotians are honouring the late Lieutenant Edward Francis Arab (BA’35, LLB’37). Lt. Arab accomplished a lot in his young life, including being one of the youngest people to ever graduate from Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. A dedicated community leader, he also helped establish the Canadian Lebanon Society of Halifax, instilling values in the society that are still present today. In Nova Scotia, Heritage Day is an annual reminder of our storied past and an opportunity to honour the remarkable people, places and events that have contributed to this province’s unique heritage. For more than 35 years, Doug Reid (BComm'82) has been helping entrepreneurs future-proof their businesses. That experience has made him a vital ally in community building, not just raising funds for health care and culture, but also developing the next generation of leaders. Do you know a Dalhousie alumnus who is working hard to support their community through leadership and community-building efforts? Nominate yourself or a classmate for an Aurum Award today. http://ow.ly/vATX50D5wTA #AurumAward

2020 has come with plenty of challenges, but it also presented a rare opportunity to reassess how our society functions. Dalhousie University Faculty of Management responded to that opportunity with Reimagine NS, a research project and discussion series that addresses everything from health care and education, to food systems and the arts. On November 26th, the initiative will conclude with "Nova Scotia's Promise, Reimagined." Join our expert panelists as they discuss concrete ways we can apply our learnings in order to create a stronger, more equitable Nova Scotia. Register here: https://bit.ly/2UD44cj
