Joe always evoked varied responses. It can be read as a grim image of human oppression or of herd mentality and conformity. It may also be seen as a tribute to human resilience. More generally, it reflected Perreault’s fascination with the way environment shapes human behaviour. For me, Perreault wrote, choreography is the expression of space, as dance is the expression of the body. A wonderful deep-dive into Crystal Pite's process for Body and Soul, and reflections on working with the large cast of the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris. I knew that it would start more human and would end up in a place that was much more of a creature world, she says of Body and Soul. The idea, she says, was to create a metaphorical swarm and to capture its collective intelligence through choreography. As humans, we crave unity...but we want to individuate, she hints of the... work’s themes. Synchrony appeals to something deep inside of us. And I wondered about our separation from nature. Read on for a deeper look at the choreographer's vision in the creation of Body and Soul. https://www.createastir.ca//crystal-pite-body-and-soul-dan

Body and Soul, choreographed by Crystal Pite and performed by the timeless Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris is just two weeks away! A message from the choreographer: I’m heartened to know that Digidance is providing an opportunity for people to experience dance on screen. The creation of Body and Soul was a significant chapter in my creative life. It was an honour to work with the sublime dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet, and a thrilling challenge to face the history and possibi...lity of the institution itself. I’m so happy to be able to share Body and Soul with my fellow Canadians. Crystal Pite, choreographer Buy tickets and learn more at the following link: https://dancehouse.ca/event/body-and-soul/
