Dancestreams Youth Dance Company 15.12.2020

WE HAVE BIG NEWS!! Vancouver Island Youth Dance Theater Association would like to announce that after 28 amazing years, Patricia MacKenzie is stepping down as A...rtistic Director of Dancestreams. Pattie has dedicated countless hour of her heart and soul into the company and the development of hundreds of aspiring young dancers from all over Vancouver Island. She has been an integral part of this organization. Her name has become synonymous with Dancestreams and we will forever be grateful for everything she has done and contributed. (There are far too many to list!!) She is looking forward to continuing teaching at her own studio, MacKenzie School of Dance, and having more free time to spend with her family. We will miss her dearly! Stepping into the role of Artistic Director is Julia Carr! Julia has been our Assistant Artistic Director for the past 11 years and we could not be more thrilled to have her at the helm moving forward. Julia is beyond competent and has some very exciting ideas for the company as we maneuver through these strange times of Covid-19 that have had such an impact on the dance world. We are also very excited to welcome our new Assistant Artistic Director, Rebecca McLane! Rebecca comes to us with an extensive modern contemporary background and has many fresh and exciting ideas to offer the company and it's dancers. VIYDTA/Dancestreams feels very lucky to have Julia and Rebecca on board and we are looking forward to building this years company and getting started on our 35th season! Happy dancing everyone! Julia has also co-authored collaborative workshops and performances throughout and beyond BC in: the Yukon, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ottawa, Paris, and various points within Australia, and Ireland. In addition to her specialized dance skills in aerial dance and Metis jigging, Julia also has a strong appreciation for Contact Improvisation and has been acting as General Manager for Peter Bingham/EDAM since 2018.
