Happy 75th birthday CJAD 800 Montreal! Some memories, starting with me being a huge nerd in high school and mocked for listening to CJAD. Even Meghan, the kindest popular girl, ripped on me to the point where I had to make up an excuse, that the clock on my portable radio was frozen on 8:00am. Also, because it was the country, I had to press the portable radio up against the metal frame of the bus in order to get decent reception. For 90 minutes each way. Again, super cool... teen. When I asked to do radio-related job shadowing days as a high school senior, I ended up spending shifts with Ric Peterson and Aaron Rand, who were both kind and encouraging. Just over a decade later, I'd be filling in for them on the drive home show. Surreal. The memories, fond and difficult... Elections, two mayor resignations, Corporal Cirillo, Lac-Mégantic and Pastagate... Creating numerous shows for CJAD, drawing on its rich history, has been a career highlight. Grateful to Chris Bury, Mike Bendixen and Dr. Laurie Betito in particular for challenging me, bringing me out of my shell, and seeing a radio personality in me that I didn't know existed. It's an honour to be on CJAD during the holidays and we'll do some big year-end talks at the end of the month that I think you'll enjoy. 4-7pm, Dec. 21-New Year's. (PQ government protests, 2013)
