This week I wrapped up a 6 week training program for the staff at @boardwalkmontessori school. And I’m finally feeling fulfilled. You see, I spent the better part of my first few years in my nutrition business helping parents feed their children and themselves. . While I love seeing families transform their mealtimes, I wanted to do more....... . I wanted to have a greater impact and make a difference in the world. But I wasn’t sure how to do that... Until I met the incredible people at @boardwalkmontessori who brought me on as the Nutritionist for their school. . This fall I had the opportunity to show their incredibly open-minded and fabulous teachers how to talk about food, prep balanced snacks, and ultimately help 60 children grow up to have a positive relationship with food. And it’s all working! Children are tasting and exploring foods they never had previously. Now that’s rewarding:) . I‘m grateful to @boardwalkmontessori for going the extra mile in raising healthy children. And for trusting me to help them do that. . I may not be changing the world, but I feel like I’m going in the right direction! #raisinghealthykids #oneschoolatatime #feelinggrateful #montessorikids #boardwalkmontessori @ Boardwalk Montessori School

Last time I checked Sienna wouldn’t allow anything green in her food. And now she makes her own wraps with lettuce rolled inside. This kind of stuff might be no big deal to some parents, but for the rest of us it’s huge! The pickiness doesn’t just magically pass if we sit back and wait. There are steps you need to take that will help your child become more comfortable with greens in their food - and be more interested in all foods.... Wanna see how I do it? ...With my 3 adventurous kids and thousands of families around the globe?! Join me for the last free training of the year! It’s happening next Wednesday. I’ll show you the 4 secrets to raising adventurous eaters (including kids who won’t cry when you put lettuce in their wraps...and do it themselves!) Who makes the meals at your house? In the Binns’ household it’s yours truly . As much I love cooking, a gal needs a break!... Well, Keith has been working from home a few days of the week with COVID, so he’s actually home *before* dinner. #gamechangerforus To be honest, I just assumed my husband couldn’t cook because I made all the meals previously. But one night I asked him to make dinner while I went for a walk with my neighbour. This is what I came home to. He nailed it! Now if only I had asked 10 years ago. #mynightoffcooking #hefooledme #dinnerismade #dinnerisdone #whydidntithinkofthisbefore #daddymadedinner

Will your child eat salad ? Maybe they don’t like leafy green salad. But we don’t interpret that as disliking ALL salads. Put two of their fave fruits in a bowl and call it a fruit SALAD.... Mix cold pasta with a fave legume, fruit or veggie and call it a pasta SALAD. Toss watermelon with feta cheese...and boom . You’ve got yourself a summer SALAD. See, now they do like salad . Remember that being comfortable with the idea of salads is the first step. Even if there isn’t a green veggie in there (yet). #kidswhoeatsalad #parentinghack #healthykidhappymom

When I found out I was having a November baby three years ago, I huffed and puffed knowing she would never have an outdoor party. But 2020 proved me wrong. Albeit being a pretty $&@!tty year, I must say I’m pretty pleased with how things are wrapping up. For one, I got to celebrate this feisty little girl’s birthday today in the sunshine with friends and family. Thank you universe for my Kenzie bear (aka boss baby). She may have had 3 cupcakes , but of course they were ma...de with zucchini and avocado icing . #birthdaygirl #november2020 #gratefulforyou #summerinthewinter #momofthreenager #bossbaby

The best and easiest way to make cauliflower is right here! 1 Wash head of #cauliflower, pat dry, and cut out core (without breaking off florets) 2 Turn cauliflower upside down. Pour avocado oil inside and brush around the whole cauliflower. Sprinkle with spice of your choice. We love @herb.amare #herbamare... 3 Place on tray and bake in oven for 45-60 minutes at 425. 4 Remove if you can poke a knife in with ease and when top is nicely browned (not burnt ). Once it cools I let my kids cut off their own florets with supervision. They love it! I usually throw this in the oven when the kids get home from school at 4. I love that it’s a hands-off recipe that requires virtually no prep. #hallejuah

So... I've completely changed my approach for managing Halloween candy with my kids. Being a Nutritionist I had a very strong opinion on sweets . But now, having extensive training and expertise on how to help kids develop healthy eating habits, I've done a 180. In the past I would limit them to a few pieces of candy. They would beg and tantrum until I gave in. And that was repeated all night. It was painful and only strengthened their obsession with sugar. Howeve...r, the research shows that forbidding foods only makes them MORE desirable! So now I do something different. I let my girls sort through their candy and go to town on Halloween. It’s one day of the year. And it teaches them how to manage their own intake (yes they will mess up and eat too much at first but it’s a learning experience). If you click the link in my bio or go here Www.daniellebinns.com/blog you will see my top 5 Halloween tips to keep sugar battles at bay and make Halloween a breeze (especially during a pandemic). These tips may surprise you, but they work SO well. My kids no longer obsess over sweets and have learned to ration their treats - not just on Halloween for the whole year) #halloweencandyfordays #healthyhalloween #Halloween2020 #halloweenwithkids #halloweeniscoming #parentingwoes #parentingtips
