My painted chair has been installed! It is on display in front of the Lake Country Museum & Archives at 11255 Okanagan Centre Rd W, where it will stay for the next two years. I am so honored to have my chair placed with two other beautiful chairs painted by the very talented Leanne Spanza's Art and Margaret Kyle. This trio of eye candy is nestled under a shade tree that overlooks Okanagan Lake. It is a fantastic spot to relax, people watch and soak in the last of our summer d...ays. . 45 #ArtWalkArtChairs were painted in total and are currently being installed throughout the Okanagan from Osoyoos to Salmon Arm. I have already seen a few of them around Lake Country and they all look amazing!! All of the chairs will be installed in clusters of 3 in parks or beaches. I have every intention of doing a scavenger hunt after they are all installed to view every chair in person! . More information about the Art Chair project is available here: http://lakecountryartwalk.ca/artchair-project/ . #lcartwalk #lcartwalk2020 #artwalkchairs #okanaganartist #covidartshow #lakecountryartwalk See more

Three weeks ago this white Muskoka chair was delivered to my doorstep. . If you’re an artist (or art lover) in the Okanagan, you probably know that Lake Country ArtWalk had to be cancelled this year. ArtWalk has operated every year since 1994 so I know this was a difficult decision to make. . In lieu of ArtWalk, a special one-time community art project was organized that tasked 40 local artists with painting these Muskoka chairs. When finished, the chairs will be displayed ...throughout the community 6 feet apart, of course! . When I was invited to participate in this project, I was immediately inspired by the old TV test screen. This isn’t the first time I have incorporated the test screen into my paintings I love its bold colours and the memories it brings of watching weekend cartoons as a kid (wayyy back in the 80s lol!) I definitely thought it was appropriate for this project because the entire year has felt like some kind of weird error message. When we were all told to stay home, nobody knew what was going on or how long it was going to last. It felt like every household was sitting in their homes watching the news on TV (or smartphones!) awaiting further instruction, but all we were getting was Please Stand By. Just like the 80s when the test screen interrupted your show, we are all forced to be patient and wait for our normal lives to resume. . I’m so grateful to the ArtWalk committee for organizing this project. This chair may be the loudest thing I have every painted It was a very welcomed distraction and I hope it spreads a little happy wherever it ends up. If you see it, feel free to send me a pic of you with it and I’ll post it on my wall! Stay safe everyone . #lcartwalk #lakecountryartwalk #artwalkchairs #lakecountrybc #lakecountry #lcartwalk2020 #covidartshow #okanaganartist #contemporaryart #popart #oldschool #throwback #retroart #tvtest #betterlucknextyear See more

This is a new style I’ve been playing around with... I call it abstract abstract lol (very creative, I know). Lots of layers of subtle colours with no definitive subject matter. Not sure if this piece is done yet... what do you guys think?

Danielle Harshenin 06.07.2020

W.I.P. I finally have an updated pic of my #landscapes for you guys! I had some time to work on them yesterday. Unfortunately, the pours I did a few weeks ago for the lake portions stretched and distorted as they dried... so I had to wait for them to completely dry, scrub them down and paint over them. My love-hate relationship with pour painting continues... My second attempt went much smoother and the pours dried successfully. Yesterday I sectioned off the mountain and ...land areas and added some texture medium to the mountains that will need a couple days to dry. You will see that in addition to the two larger landscapes (36" x 24"), I have also started some MINI landscapes (8" x 8" each). I have been accepted to participate in the Lake Country Public Art Gallery's Under $100 Christmas show this year. I will have five of my paintings in this show, including some of these mini landscapes. This show opens on November 23 and is a fantastic opportunity to buy some small, affordable art #9weeksuntilChristmas #ChristmasShopping #ShopLocal #SupportLocalArtists #OkanaganArtist #ContemporaryArt #PourPainting #UniqueGiftIdeas #Christmas2019

Wishing you all a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING weekend!!!! I am in the studio this morning working on a new large (40 x 60) abstract painting... and my fiancé surprised me by bringing me a pumpkin spice latte that he made for me. What did I do to deserve this man?? I am thankful for so many things in life but above all, my family. My amazing fiancé Scott Chambers and our children. These three human beings mean the absolute world to me. What are YOU most thankful for??... #HappyThanksgiving #Thanksgiving2019 #family #gratitude #love #countingmyblessings #PSL #abstractart

In for a close up... These are the two #OkanaganLandscape paintings I’m working on... so far the sky and lake sections are done. Once the lake section has dried I can work on the mountains and land portions of the paintings... I haven’t quite figured out what I want that to look like yet, but they will definitely incorporate some 3D texture! #OkanaganArtist #workinprogress #WIP #ContemporaryArt #ContemporaryLandscape #StayTuned

WORK IN PROGRESS UPDATE My mission to create a #landscape painting that I don’t think is boring continues... Saturday seems to be the day I feel most inspired (or perhaps it’s the only day I can find time!!) Today I completed the #lake portion of my landscapes. I wanted to use similar colours to the sky as if it were reflecting on the water. I’m very happy with how this pour came out! I love these pastel colours... what do you think?? ... #OkanaganArtist #OkanaganLake #workinprogress #WIP #ContemporaryArt #ContemporaryLandscape

Danielle Harshenin 16.05.2020

WORK IN PROGRESS Happy Saturday everyone! I was in my studio all morning today experimenting with (what will soon be) some #Okanagan landscape paintings. If you have followed me for a while, you know that landscapes are not my thing... I’m 100% abstract. I usually find #landscape paintings too literal (and dare I say BORING) for my tastes. However, I recently got the urge to paint a landscape, go figure! So... I have been conceptualizing how I could put my own spin on ...a landscape to abstract it up. Today I started this pair of 3’ x 2’ panels and managed to complete the sky portion... so I wanted to share a progress pic! *Please ignore the black/pink sections as this is where the mountains, lake and land will be* Stay tuned. #OkanaganArtist #OkanaganArt #Sky #workinprogress #WIP

SOLD Well this is cool.... A couple weeks ago, I was notified that three of my paintings at The Lloyd Gallery had been purchased by a couple in Germany! After the couple returned home from their Okanagan vacation, they emailed a photo of the paintings up on their wall. I LOVE seeing pics of my work in its forever homes. This was extra special knowing the paintings travelled so far to arrive at their final destination. Big THANK YOU’s to the Lloyd Gallery and the purchase...rs These works are from my 2014 collection... they are much more bold and textured than my current works. In the (very) near future, I would like to attempt to merge these two styles! Danielle Harshenin 06.12.2019

As I expected, it has been really difficult to make time to paint with my kids home this summer lol... But yesterday afternoon I got the urge to paint so I let my son (12) and daughter (8) come in the studio with me. The kids selected the colours (which are much brighter than I would typically select) and helped apply the paint. We had so much fun collaborating!! And I was actually surprised by how well they turned out. #OkanaganKids #PourPainting #OkanaganArtist #Summer #MakingMemories

I haven’t been able to paint this past week (which is driving me CRAZY haha )... I’m hoping to get into the studio later this week. But today I was going through some videos that I made last month and thought you might like to watch one too! Danielle Harshenin 11.10.2019

Happy SATURDAY everyone!! I promised that I would post some pics of my new LARGE painting (60 x 108) installed in my living room, so here is a virtual tour of my home This piece currently has one coat of glossy varnish applied but I may do a second coat, we’ll see. It still needs a name!! I also have The Elements (48 x 36) installed in my living room and a new large painting (36 x 60) *also in need of a name* above my stairs... so I took some pics of those too. I think seeing the paintings on display helps put their scale into perspective I will try to have all of my new work photographed and up on my website by the end of the month. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Danielle Harshenin 07.10.2019

This past week I made it my mission to create a very LARGE painting. My dining room has a looong empty wall that has been craving some artwork ever since we moved in... so this piece is 5’ high by 9’ wide (done on 3 panels) this is by far the biggest painting I have ever made. I have struggled with pour painting on large canvases as it’s a lot more complicated (and costly)... but I was really happy with how this one turned out! It is almost dry and then I can put a glossy topcoat on to make those colours pop!! I can’t wait to get this up on my wall (at least until it finds its forever home) I will share a pic once it’s completely dry and installed. In the meantime, it needs a name! Any suggestions??

Danielle Harshenin 04.10.2019

When I first started painting 13 years ago, one of the first (successful) paintings I made was a 4-panel piece called The Elements. Recently, I was re-inspired by this same idea - but using the flip and drag pour technique. The 4 panels represent Earth , Air , Fire and Water My kids have interpreted them as swamp monster, white snake, desert snake and sea snake... the beauty of abstract work is that everyone sees it differently!! I love hearing what others ...see in my paintings... What do YOU see?? #okanaganartist #pourpainting #abstractart #contemporaryart #swampmonster #desertsnake

Danielle Harshenin 26.09.2019

For the last couple days I have been experimenting with a pour technique called the flip and drag. I did this painting on an old warped canvas just to play around but then I ended up really liking it lol (go figure)... unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I couldn’t get it level to dry so the paint shifted and I lost some of those pretty cells. But there will definitely be more of these to come #okanaganartist #pourpainting #kelownaartist #cells #contemporaryart #abstractart

Danielle Harshenin 24.09.2019

The last couple days have been a roller coaster... I think all artists have good days and bad days but I honestly can’t say I’ve ever worked with a technique as frustrating as pour painting Last night was my second attempt at tree ring pouring and I had some successes... However, when I attempted it on a large 36x36 canvas today, it crashed and burned!! I won’t lie, the cost of the supplies that you waste when you botch a large painting makes the failure extra disheartening Better luck tomorrow. I think the blue one looks like an onion and the pink/green one looks like a galaxy... What do you see??
