The Dartmouth Makers 23.02.2021

We made the announcement on our Instagram account... but forgot to post it here This would be the time we would be opening up our applications for our Spring Market. This would be the time we get together and collaborate with Makers. This would be the time we celebrate community, love and handmade goodness.... But it is with huge sadness that The Dartmouth Makers will not have a 2021 Spring Show. We know Makers depend on these shows for various reasons however, we cannot safely and responsibly put on a Spring show for you. Even as a Virtual Market... we feel we need to take a break and come back with a bang for the Winter season. Stay cheerful and happy and most of all safe this Spring. Keep an eye out late Summer 2021 when we make our call for our Winter Market. #dartmouth #ilovedartmouth #dartmouthmakers #handmade #local #shoplocal #shophandmade #supportlocal #supporthandmade #makers #makersgonnamake #ilovehandmade #ilovelocal #dartmouthproud #novascotia #madeincanada #canadamade #madeincanadamatters #madeincanada

The Dartmouth Makers 29.12.2020

As we close on our 2020 Virtual Winter Dartmouth Makers we have 2 words that come to mind " WOW" and "THANK YOU". When we decided to switch our market virtually we honestly had no idea how it would work, if people would be responsive or would support us and our vendors. What we quickly learnt as the month went on was that our customers (YOU) are truly AMAZING and SOOOOO supportive!... We are thanking you from the bottom of our hearts for all your support, for your purchases, your likes, comments and shares. We cannot thank you enough. Even though our virtual market is officially closed, you can still connect with any of the vendors and order until the holidays. Thank you for supporting LOCAL this holiday season. Our last but certainly not least 30th Dartmouth Makers Vendor is Cabbage Patch Kimchi. Cabbage Patch Kimchi produces an artisan traditional Korean kimchi, which is a non-dairy probiotic that is made primarily from Napa cabbage. This delicious condiment is great for the digestive system and helps rebuild the microflora in the stomach which strengthens the immune system. Cabbage Patch Kimchi was established in 2015 and demand has been steadily growing since then. The owner, Jes...sie Palmer, learned how to make kimchi while living in Korea as an English teacher. Where to buy Cabbage Patch Kimchi? On their website at https://www.cabbagepatchkimchi.ca/. Any questions? Contact Jessie at: [email protected].

Our 29th Dartmouth Makers Vendor is An Oddity or Two. An Oddity or Two is a mixed media circus made up of a lot of whimsy and a little bit of weird. It was rather born out of necessity as she found herself simply making too much stuff as she explored mediums and different types of crafts. You will always find an eclectic mix of illustration, assemblage and pop culture with Oddities's work! Where to buy An Oddity or Two Mixed Media? On their website at https://www.anoddityort...wo.ca/. Any questions? Contact Isabelle at: [email protected]

The Dartmouth Makers 01.05.2020

In the interest of protecting the health and safety of our Makers, our community and our attendees, we have made the difficult decision to cancel The Dartmouth Makers 2020 Winter Market. Although COVID-19 cases have declined significantly in the Atlantic region, it’s our feeling that holding The Dartmouth Makers Winter Market is not in the best interest of public safety. Even if these circumstances change, we recognize that we will still be living with the virus in November, ...and we’ve concluded that a large public gathering would pose an unacceptable risk to everyone. COVID-19 may have changed purchasing habits for better or for worse, but it’s business as (un)usual for most of us, which requires a new approach. We’ve done our research and we know our communities are willing to support local and want to support small businesses. We believe that the spirit of the Dartmouth community is strong, resilient and supportive. We want to share the stories of local Makers because we local and we where we live. We believe in building community connection because we are stronger together (even if we’re together apart). For all the Makers out there, hold tight we have something amazing up our sleeves, so keep an eye out in September when we open our applications up for our Virtual Market. Hi! My name is Erin Hollingshead and I am a painter and printmaker based out of Halifax! I am a one woman show that operates out of my bedroom studio where I paint and make my block prints. I design, carve, ink and print by hand all of my block prints. Each one is made individually and is an original work of art! I started relief printmaking in highschool and continued to explore it at NSCAD University. I now use the ocean as my main source of inspiration for both my prints and my oil and acrylic paintings! Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ehollingsheadartwork/ Right now I am offering free shipping to anyone located in the Halifax and Dartmouth area! Just send me a DM for the free shipping code you can use on my online shop!

Hi! I'm Kaela Steeves, the maker behind _bwrapped_ Let me tell you a little bit about our "why". Reflecting on the damage that is being done to our planet, we felt strongly that is was time for us to really dial in and do better. We thought long and hard and decided to do away with the single-use plastics in our life and instead replace them with a sustainable, vegan and eco-conscious item. Giving people a vegan option was very important to us, we understand that not ev...eryone feels comfortable using items with animal by-products and who would like the opportunity to have a reusable option. *Please note that some fabrics may vary depending on availability. Hello, my name is Erin and I make hand woven and naturally dyed textiles. All materials are either 100% natural, or thrifted and upcycled, and i work exclusively with plant based dyes. All handwoven items are made on my vintage floor loom in my home. To reduce waste, any useable scraps are made into smaller items. Items that are to be dyed are scoured to remove any residue and dirt, treated with a mordant to allow the dye to adhere to the cotton, and then dyed with plan...t-based dyes. I use a combination of dye extracts (madder/marigold/indigo), foraged plant material (goldenrod/rhododendrons), and kitchen waste (avocado pits/onion skins). This slow process leaves each item with the markings of a truly unique, and 100% handmade piece. ETSY: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/madebyErinElizabeth
