Anyone else working on any wooden projects? These little wood slices are great to start painting or wood burning on. I don’t consider myself a painter by any means but it’s fun to do while watching tv. Don’t worry you don’t have to go in the woods with a chainsaw to get these craft supplies. I’ve had a few interested in how I refinished my table. Thought I would share a step by step guide. However results can vary depending on type of wood used which can effect stain soaking in. 1. Use a hand sander to sand down table top. I use a black and decker mouse sander but any will do! Also make sure to have a dry or damp rag to wipe off sawdust. 2. Apply stain color of your choice. The lighter the color will require more coats to get your desired look. For this table I ...chose oil based weathered oak from varathane. For this table I did 3 coats. 3. I applied a white wash of white primer paint mixed with a tiny bit of water with a sponge brush but a rag should do just fine. Before applying the white wash make sure to use a piece of sandpaper and lightly rough it up to get the sheen from the stain down so the paint and water can soak in. Make sure your stain is dry before doing the whitewash because oil and water does not mix. 4. Apply a top coat of varathane to seal the table. I applied two coats. You can get the spray can varathane which I like cause it’s not as messy as the can however it does smell very strong so make sure you wear gloves and mask while doing stain and top coat and sanding. Protective eyewear is good idea for sanding as well. For the base of the table I did not sand it down. I applied primer and then used Behr aklyd cabinet paint in a Swiss coffee color.
