Another PSA for you folks: if you have steel entry doors or steel garage doors on your home and you're using salt to melt ice around them, eventually you'll end up with a rusty door. Much like cars that do not get oil sprayed for protection against road salt, steel doors are susceptible to the same corrosion, and oil spraying them is not an option. Thankfully there are other options, magnesium and calcium ice melters are available at most building centres. (call before you go to make sure) These ice melters are also good for removing ice dams from roof tops where salt is not.
