Well it's about time! The sky hasn't been clear here since Derc 14 We finally got to see them again but 5 days after their conjunction on Dec 21.... You can make out the big 4 moons around Jupiter (upper left) even with just a 300mm lens - section enlarged.

Well I'm not getting any younger. It's time to finally stop being so cheap and finally get some of my favourite shots from 45+ years printed and mounted. If nothing else it will be my contribution to my own memorial someday, complimenting the musical ones of my daughters ;)

This monarch took 13 days to morph from a caterpillar to an adult butterfly of the fifth generation that flies all the way back to mexico for the winter. It lives up to six months whereas the previous 4 generations lived for two to three weeks. Here's the big question that has yet to be answered: How does this 5th generation butterfly know where to migrate to? The first sequence is of the final molt of the caterpillar. The whole process takes less than a minute. I missed the... very beginning of the process. Here is the final shake 'n dance to get rid of it's caterpillar "skin". The next sequence took 13 days. I checked it at 6:30 this morning. At 7ish, I decided to go inside for a quick breakfast and when I came out... I missed the big event again!:( for the last three stages of the Chrysalis, and the emerged butterfly, I took multiple frames, each focused slightly closer and then combined for complete focus from front to back. Last is my use-what-you-have set up that had to remain in place for the duration.
