Happy New Year! 2020 has certainly given us a lot to reflect on. As we move into 2021, I look forward to another year serving the great people of Bonny-Cold Lake-St. Paul and working hard to help our province be the best it can be.

I was happy to speak with CFWE, Windspeaker Radio about both the Fishing Lake Metis Settlement and Elizabeth Metis Settlement receiving $3.5 million dollars in a one time payment from Improvement District 349. Thank you to Minister Tracy Allard and Minister Rick Wilson for their work on ID 349 and working to include the Metis settlements in this deal. http://www.cfweradio.ca//lakeland-metis-settlements-sign/

Today, please take time to buy a poppy, attend a Remembrance Day ceremony in person or online, and support your local legion. This is the least we can do for those who have sacrificed so much for us. Lest we forget.

I am thrilled to see the news that St. Paul will receive 975 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine right away. 25,350 vaccine doses have arrived in the province and will be delivered to vaccine sites around Alberta. The first phase of vaccine rollout focuses on respiratory therapists, intensive care physicians and staff, and long-term care and designated supportive living facility workers across Alberta. This is great news for front-line health care workers in St. Paul and area who continue to work hard to save lives and protect livelihoods everyday!

I am thrilled to see more doctors coming to our region. St. Paul has had a challenging year and this announcement will alleviate many concerns our community has faced. I was proud to work with Minister Shandro and my rural colleagues last April to ensure that Alberta offers generous incentives for physicians to practice in rural Alberta. Although there is more work to be done, St. Paul is lucky to have these doctors coming here. I look forward to continuing to work with Mayor Maureen Miller to continue improving health care in our area.

Thank you to the incredibly brave men and women who have laid down their lives for our freedom. Please take time to attend a Remembrance ceremony in your community, and support your local legion. Lest we forget.

The Alberta Firearms Advisory Committee will be holding two telephone townhalls this fall on November 17th and 23rd from 7pm-9pm. During these events, Albertans can call in to voice their opinions about provincial firearms policy and the federal government’s gun grab. Each telephone townhall will accommodate 1000 people and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-register at: https://www.alberta.ca/alberta-firearms-advisory... If you cannot make the town halls, you can also provide your input using the new public survey at: https://extranet.gov.ab.ca/opinio6/s?s=50964

I am proud to have Reeve Sawchuk join me in supporting Bill 45, The Local Authorities Election Amendment Act. Alberta’s government is proposing changes to contribution limits to a max of $30,000 per donor per third-party advertiser. Bill 45 also proposes that senate and referendum elections are to be held on the same day as municipal and school board elections. We are working to cut costs and reduce red tape for all Albertans.
